i give up!

i have a PA sfi bell used for both converters
it could be an older core trans and they use a diff type gasket. there will be a hole at the very bottom and a reg gasket wont seal it, they use a o-ring style gasket. ive had to do this before, i had trans out 2-3 times before i figured it out.

C-4 with PA SFI belhousing reverse manual best of everything, keeps blowing pump gasket ,any ideals why!

Does it just leak when sitting, or spray out when in a particular gear. Is the gasket actually getting blown out, as in tearing? If so the surface of the case or pump is not flat. Should be a easy fix, unless the case surface id damaged beyond repair.

The style pump & case your referring to was only used the first year of production for c-4's, and while its rare, from time to time I see mix matched parts. This style used a o-ring on the outer dia. of the pump, and the case had a "drain back " hole(which has no pressure) . If using a early case with a drain back hole, you must either plug it, or use a early pump body with a o-ring (which is my preferred fix). Either way, its not a hard fix, with the exception of locating a early pump. The early models also used a metal gasket for the pump, which is no longer available. Using the later paper gasket will work in all c-4's.

it happens when i start the motor, i pulled it out and apart and put a new pump gasket on it , and it worked for a few miles ,put the car away ,started the car two days later and it did it again, it leaks like someone is dumping a gallon of water out! ???

its a case fill, is that a older case? can i change it to a case fill, will all of my parts fit it?

i was told that the bolts holding the bell on are too long, im going to take it apart again and replace the gasket and try shorter bolts, i hope that fixes it!

thanks to everyone that responed !!!

I was just getting ready to ask if the bolts might be to long for the bellhousing.

1964-1969 cases have a vent tube on the left side of the case. 1970 and later the vent moved to the tail housing. Substantial differences between the early (64-69) models, but most of the parts will fit into a later case, or vice versa. The 70 and later pump/drums/planets are better/stronger.
Unsure what engineers were trying to acomplish by having two differant style cases and bellhousings (case fill and pan fill) other than a using a larger diameter torqueconverter.
Using the proper length bolts to hold the bell on might help. :punchball

yep!i was thinking the same thing, this trans was build by a shop, very high dollar, one would think that the money they charged to build it ,it would be right!:headscrat i will not be doing any dealing with that shop again!
