Hydrostatic Testing (Nitrous bottle re-cert)

Anyone know a good place to get this done locally? Selling a kit and the guy looking to buy is asking about that. Know how much it costs?

I thought those places did it, that was one of the places I told him to check with. Any idea on what it typically costs? 10 lb bottle if that matters.

I had it done once and it was $30. But I can tell you it was not as easy to find a place as everyone says. Most scuba shops won't handle it bc they are only licensed to do non flammable. I was also told fire extinguisher places and they all said no and hung up. I ended up having a welding gas store send it out. But have never done it again. Never had a refill store ask me or check if the tank was expired.

But nitrous isn't flammable

Yeah I know but for some reason they won't do it. I can't tell you how many places I called and got mad or rude responses. Literally most people hung up on me. I'm not sure if it's bc it is not a breathable gas, or they just assume I am a addict trying to get funny gas. I don't know but it was really fucking hard and a total waste of time. After getting to know my refill guy I asked him and he flat out told me he didn't even know how to tell if one was or was not in date. Lol.

What about a welding supply store? Im sure they have to reup their tanks also.

This. I rent my nitrous mother bottles from Lessor's welding supply on Jackson Rd. in Ann Arbor. Cool guys, I'd give them a call and ask if they could help with recerting the 10 lb. tanks.

Thanks guys. I don't think the buyer is going to get away with no cert given he is doing drag week and I think one of the sponsors of drag week general does bottle fills for free. I'm guessing those guys will want the cert. I will tell him he should probably skip the scuba places and try welding places if his local FD won't touch it. I've read online about some FDs doing it for people.

Does the place testing it need to know what is going in the bottle? :) If the bottle had no sticker on it could you just take it some place and say, I need this hydrostatic tested and certed? Dude that bought it works at MPG and I know there's an airgas off Wixom I've gotten welding gas bottles at on his way to work, I will tell him to take it there.
