56.5" comes to mind plate to plate. I needed an 8.8 for my Pacer and a Mustang rear was too narrow. Got one from a Lincoln that is 61.5" and is a perfect fit. Good luck.

if im not mistaken an 8.8 housing is an 8.8 housing. as far as mustangs go at least i no this to be true. a fox 8.8 housing is the same thing as an sn95 housing. the axles are just longer on the sn95. and i think the sn95s are either .75'' or 1.75'' longer than a fox. hope this helps

Yes the tube is the same length from 79-98. The axles got 3/4" longer on each side in 94-98. 99-04 then housing is longer and the axles are 1-1/2" longer on each side than a fox...(3/4" longer than 94-98)

I just went through putting a 2001 axle in my 81 fox, and I had to buy 05+ offset wheels to get them to tuck in under the car.

that is what i thought. i bet that was a fun job. i alsways wondered if you could get one of the new rears in that car with the right off sets. now i know haha

cheers

Here ya go. 81 notch. 2001 axle. 17X9 05+ wheels (+45mm offset) They came from American Muscle. They are the only ones I have seen with them. A 17X8 05+ wheel has the same +45mm offset and would sit inward 1 inch. I am right at the outer most edge, but I haven't bottomed out.
