How was Grattan?

My-father-in-law (Herb in a 2000 vette) said he had a great time. He even admitted and that he found his way into the gravel. He said everyone was very nice and he learned alot.

Wet. Then dry. Then wet again. Then dry.

Was your mother-in-law the one hitting on me? ;) (Ask her if she was talking to the guy in the garage next door with a gray GTO. She was interested in the car and asking all kinds of questions.)

My buddy took a bunch of pics so we'll get some posted up later today or tomorrow.

Was he in a pewter FRC? Not sure what the situation was but if that was him he looped it a couple cars in front of me and backed it into the sand trap. Thats what they are there for I guess.

I had brake problems all day. Tried new rotors and bled a liter of fluid thru the system and no difference. I think I might have toasted the calipers from overheating them at Grattan in July. Still had enough brakes to run decently. Was on bald nitto drags in the rear which made for some interesting driving in the rain, sideways off of every corner. Could barely lay down power, and just about when I could it was time to slow down again for the next turn. I ran the QA1 drag shocks at #12 with 325 lb front springs and they did okay. The spring rate was a tad to soft for that type of racing, and I would scrape the X-pipe as I hit the hill on the backstretch.

Got stuck in D group (beginners) which was okay in the rain because I couldnt really do anything anyways. But we got one good dry session and the car was hauling ass. Don't think I got one clean lap in without getting stuck behind slower traffic.

The last session of the day (wet again) I got squirley coming out of corner 1 (mostly self induced ;) ) which has a nice and wide exit, the steering wheel was at full lock and when I realized the car wasn't coming back I nailed the gas and did a complete 360. Damn was that fun as hell!! I had SaleenRob riding shotgun with the camera getting thrown around inside lol!

Had a blast even with the shit weather. Cant wait for next years events.

Brought Rob with us this time so he could give the whole Road Racing thing a try with his cobalt, and he loved it. Dave (DeFormula) also said he had a good time, i'm sure he will post about it.

I had a great time. I bought new street tires just in case of the rain, and ended up needed them for the morning sessions. The BFG G-Force Sports kicked ass in the wet!
After lunch switched to the Hoosiers, and had 2 real fun sessions with the track getting more and more dry.
I got a bunch of pictures and video of the day, but dont have it all uploaded yet. I will post links when it is all up.

You were haulin' butt. Good to meet you.

And yes, despite the mostly wet day we got in one good dry session and it was a blast. Can't wait to do it again.

I was directly behind him when he looped it. It was good to hear he was OK and so is the car. Nice guy, cool car.

As soon as I saw you could blow past me, (even in the turns), I definitley thought you should be in at least the C group if not higher. Heck, I was blowing past most of the D group guys and it was my first time out so I'm thinking MAYBE C for me next time. You're probably ready for the B group.

I'd like to run with some B cars and see how I do. I've gotten pretty comfortable with the track. Once I get some better brakes on it I think i'll be able to hang it out a bit more.

I had a blast. I got two good dry runs in with the Vette, and they were probably the best laps I have ever turned. Can't wait for a dry day.

Herb got way into the gravel trap, but it wasn't anything we couldn't pull out with the truck. Hell, I hardly noticed there was anything attached as I pulled him out. Same with the Honda del Sol that went into the gravel in 1.

As for run groups, we hope to be far more organized next year, so we will have the groups drafted up earlier. That will give everyone a chance to let us know if they think they should be in a different group.

Thanks for coming out.

Ken

I had a great time as well. The rain SUCKED !!! I rode shotgun most of the time in the Cobalt SS with SaleenRob. But in the last session Rob drove with Johnny & I took out the SS. Man was that fun. It's been about 7 years since i've been on a road coarse. I got a little sideways after the straight away but did pretty good after that. I'll post a thread of some of the vid's I took from Rob's car of Johnny. Also i'll put up the pics from the bar sat. night ... hehehe

All in all I think we all had a great weekend.

Herb looped it? He did that last winter in the Z28 too! 2 for 2 damn Chevy drivers. :nutkick:
