How to reduce an .AVI's file size

I have a 24 meg movie that I want to reduce it to say 5 megs (I assume it would loose resolution). Is there an easy way to do this? What software will I need?

Google AVI to MPEG Converter. A number of freeware apps should come up. Personally I use CucuSoft AVI to MPEG Converter. Its fast easy, and you can do 4:3 or 16:9 aspect ratio.

Have you tried Windows Movie Maker? It's included with Windows XP so you may already have it and just don't know it.

Yep, as Scooter said just use movie maker, you make the file any size you want.

use the divx codec, its probably the best one out there i think.
