How to deal with overbearing City Ordnance person?

In the city of New Baltimore you are allowed to keep a recreational vehicle trailer in your driveway up to 72 hours.

This winter, I had my snowmobile trailer in my driveway for about a week and got a ticket. I do not permanently keep the trailer here, but during winter, dealing with snowmobile maintenance, family and life, it is hard to always transport it back to its permanent spot.

Today I went to court for the concern. Was last to go after all the thugs. Judge asked me if I moved the trailer, I said yes, and then he dismissed the case with no fine!

There was a sheet of paper attached to the ticket with a phone # for the City Ordnance person. I called today and told the guy judge dismissed the case with no fine and also asked how other people on the street were getting away with it. He says they are getting ticketed too. He did admit that no one is complaining about the trailer, he just periodically drives around to check. He was a dick.

It sucks no one is complaining and the judge doesn't even care... How do I deal with this Barney Fife? I dont need him to keep ticketing me. Guy is overbearing!

1. Find out what kind of vehicle he drives.
2 Find somebody with the same vehicle.
3. Get a male friend and a female friend to help.
4. Make a fake license plate that looks like his.
5. Film "secret video" of what would obviously be him picking up a prostitute in his city vehicle on the job.
- Helps if the car is rocking and there's some head bobbing going on.
6. Mail it anonymously to the local news.

Write out your concerns / complaint in a polite, but clear letter
explaining what had happened & what you expect to be corrected.

First : You then take this letter & hand deliver it to said “overbearing City
Ordnance person’s” supervisor and ask for action.

Second : If no action / satisfaction, you then ask to see the city / township supervisor
and present them with your letter (second copy) and ask for action.

Third : If still no action / satisfaction, you attend your next city / township public
meeting, there is always a opportunity for residents to address the city / township
board. Read your letter to them.

I have worked in government for many years & was a township department head.
I worked with appointees (hired employees) and elected officials. This is how you get
action / satisfaction in most cases.

He works for you. I would call the city and complain about harassment. If that guy has time to drive around all day then I would give them an idea for a cost savings.

First, not trying to be a dick-just opening potential eyes to see a different side.

I live in a nicer part of Mount Clemens and we have the city inspectors roll thru every day. It really sucks but there is a reason. Its to enforce the code. The ordinances are there for a reason. What came first, you/your snowmobile trailer or the city ordinance? You can go thru the route to lift that ordiance but that can/will bring other issues with more people having other recreational trailers etc parked at thier house. That code enforcer who is driving around is just doing their job. It is similar to a cop who is busting people for going 1-2 MPH over the posted limit. Rules are rules and some people enforce them a bit stricter. I personally thing you are on the right path but others might disagree.

This!

I live in Dearborn Heights and we had similar rules about trailers. my parents also lived in the same city. My dad went to meetings for a few years and helped change the ordinance regarding storage of trailers. I now keep my 30' camper in my yard, i just have to make sure i'm X amount of feet from houses, buildings, and garages. Luckily my house is first on the block, which means the closed off alley is now my yard/driveway. Although i get you feel your trailer is not a big issue but, rules are rules. So if you get away with it, then your neighbors start following suite with their not so small Trailers/RV's, and your block starts to look like a storage yard, don't complain. Just try to get the ordinance change to accommodate suitable trailers for the space.

^^x2. If you got a ticket I am guessing they notified you to move it in 24 hours or be ticketed. Just move it when warned. And the last thing you should of done was to out of your way to call the guy and tell him " see I got that shit dismissed". Bc you better believe a guy that is gonna be back now ALOT. Also don't be so sure that someone didn't complain, he is not obligated or going to tell you if they did. I would just read and fully understand the ordinance so you can make it work. Park it there when needed and if caught( givin your move in 24 hours notice). Move it. Judge might not be so nice the next time bc at some point you are wasting her time that is better spent dealing with those so called " thugs of new Baltimore". Lol

Get a shell of a vehicle that has outer mounted wheels. Convert it into a hideaway garage for the trailer. Put the trailer in the shell and it only looks like you have a crappy vehicle shell in your driveway.

good idea..
I Need to do this in roseville

First off, I got no warning. I got a ticket saying 0 days to move it, and record was sent to court... I got official ticket in mail about a month and a half later. I moved the trailer as soon as I got the ticket on it

See I live in New Baltimore. 1 mile from Lake St Clair. Its a costal town. You would think a town of this geography would be ok with people having lake related recreational vehicles. Many people not in the subdivisions do it. I live in a sub. I have a 3 car garage and 3 car driveway. The 3rd car garage is recessed a little, and that is where I may park my trailer occasionally.

Thats messed up, i had 1. 30' and 1. 42' in my yard once, they wrote me a 2 week notice to move the second camper.

just out of stupid curiosity what made you poke the bear? (call the officer and let him know it got dismissed)

I wanted to let him know that the judge himself did not care about about me having a trailer. Also when I got the ticket attached to the trailer, it had a copy of the law attached to it. It says vehicles have to be completely behind the front of the house. Down my street there is a camper and a boat that have been not moved for YEARS on the side of some peoples garages that stick out. I mentioned this to him and he says he is going to get on it.

Guy is a dick, he needs to find something better to do!

No HOA. Moving is an option... Only been here 2 years. Moving here, 1 mile away from Lake St Clair and a coastal town, I thought they were not going to be strict w this shit.

The guy could have better things to do. No neighbors are complaining, judge don't care. I just asked the guys from Richards Autoparts if they've have problems w him and guy told me stories....

We had some people in my old subdivision (Clinton Twp) who had an RV, maybe a 30 foot at the biggest, park on the side of thier house and it stuck out by about a bumper length. They were not going to sell it, didnt want to store it so they moved. That was a huge BS deal IMO. Now people have shit all over the place in that sub.

As far as you are concerned with your rec vehicles etc, I would probably be looking to get the ord changed.

There are a TON of people in this area with trailers full of fec vehicles, jet skis, snow mobiles etc. My question to you, what would you want the ord to be changed to? Would you want it completely gone? Would you be mad if every neighbor of yours had a trailer in the driveway? What if it was a trailer with a pile of shit boat, jet ski etc?
