How to deal with a used car dealership??

..getting the run around of I need to ask my manager I say bye
^This. Or just say that's fine. I'm leaving in thirty seconds.
They're just trying to wear you out. F* that.
Negotiating should be a simple/painless process for both sides unless either side is being greedy.
My two cents is I'm just looking for a good price. I'm not asking for something for nothing and I don't begrudge anyone for making a living. I just don't want to get Shanghaied.
If you know fair market value and know what you're willing to spend then it should be a fairly smooth process.
Arrange financing in advance to shopping.

The market is pretty good right now for trucks. You may be able to get more movement on a car. If it is a Raptor - forget it! I always check NADA pricing. If they are higher, then you should be able to get NADA.

I've tried the Amex and Costco buying program and even though I specifically said I wanted a 3LT Z51 every single salesleach called with 1LT or 2 LT cars and made it impossible to hammer out a price between competing dealers. (not one called with a price for a 3LT Z51)
I tried the Capital One auto navigator site, and that was a little better since you choose cars then call the dealer when you've found what you've wanted and had the pre-qualified financing in hand.
Overall if you haven't tried it and you're looking for a pretty standard car I'd try Capitol one.
