I grew out of the bar scene and the fighting scene years and years ago....but if someone puts their hands on you, as you describe, the only reaction that makes sense is an immediate return punch in the face, as hard and fast as you can. No exceptions. That's just my opinion.

Chris this used to happen to me all the time. It's hard when you date HOT chicks or in my case have a HOT wife I used to wait for that "draw the line" point grabbing etc... I am the type that will not say anything when I'm dissed in front of my face, I will just cock back and knock the mother fucker out! This has happened on several occasions so the wife has learned to step up and tell the drunks she is married and this is my husband. They either walk away or introduce themselves to me and leave. Works every time! Of course the rock on her finger is huge some guys don't evern bother. But I will Never hesitate to knock a mother fucker on his ass when he crosses the line and neither should you.

I try not to put myself in any situation where I could get into trouble. You never know who is dumb enough to pull a gun on you and use it.

I had this discussion with my brother who hangs at bars at lot. He seems to get in a quite a few "altercations"..with drunk guys and his girl. She doesnt want him to fight but she doesnt want drunk guys hangin on her. Personally...IMO you dont want that?? dont hang in places that foster that idea. There you go...problem solved. I get along with just about everybody. No real situations arise to where I'd have to be a hard ass. But I have no problem getting physical if needed. If somebody put their hand in my face and pushed me away, I'd have dropped the guy that instant.

And... I've learned a thing or two about these situations. As stated, in a bar, dudes are gonna try to put a move on your woman. Initially, IMHO, it's up to her to make it clear that she's not interested and she's with you. If the guy doesn't take the hint, you might have to get involved.
