How did you find your job?

Wife is currently driving from Toledo to Chelsea. 120 miles a day on her brand new car. one month old and it's already at 4k miles .

indeed.com and dice.com are good for finding jobs, mostly tech jobs however.

I found mine through school back in the Northeast, the company was trying to pick IT students straight out of schooling so they were sure to have a wide foundation of knowledge + the likely ability to be brought in from the ground up.

Its bs I say, but sometimes its not what you know, its who you know. Thats how alote of ppl I know got there jobs, from there family. Just sometimes it can cost $$$$ damn union reps, lol

I agree. I have got interviews based just on having a connection with someone who worked there and I'm sure others have got jobs I"ve applied for since they had a connection there and as a result I didn't get the job.

I have gotton all my jobs through connections/networking. However if i was looking right now, id forget about monster.com. Too many people flooding every job posting on there. I would start by doing alot of local research of companies you would like to work for, and that you have a skill set to offer. Then contact those companies directly. Ask for an HR person, talk to them, ask how the hiring process works, thell them your interested, visit corporate websites. Alot of companies post jobs on corporate websites that never see monster.com or others. I would try to build a listing of specific places you could be of value too, how they do there hiring, and regurarly pursue trying to work for them. Its a different proactive approach then waiting for the job announcement/ads to come out.

You should never bash your employer publicly I don't care how bad you think it is, It flat out looks bad on you bottom line. Let alone could get you fired or will make people think twice about hiring you for fear of what you might say about the company publically.

You should read; What Color Is Your Parachute by Richard Nelson Bolles. Make sure you get a current copy its updated yearly an relased the two months before the near year, so the new one should be out this month.

I got my current Job Via headhunters, My job before this was because of who I knew thru networking which was a huge deal, never would have gotten to the experience I have it if wasn't for those two people.

Last job I heard about through a friend, you should call up the automotive office at Ferris I get emails from them every week about jobs and I graduated in 07.

Current job I found in the paper(actually a friend found it in the paper and told me) Previous department I worked for I found the listing on the city website.

I agree it depends on the profession as to what is the best route to take to find a job.

As much as it sucks and I hate to say it, because I also HATE to hear it. In this economy you have to be happy to be working. A lot of people are driving farther than they want, making less than they want/should and working some place they would rather not (for many different reasons) So you may just have to suck it up and hope the economy turns around.

I really do feel lucky have a job at all but that drive is too much. I have to drive the gf's Camaro just to get by on gas. If I drive my Explorer it completely kills my check. I'm not blowing it out of proportion. I mean by the time bills are paid the check is gone and then some because of gas.
