How about them propane prices?..

My insert is roughly 11' from a window in the back porch that we call the "wood window". It's got a lot of cycles on it now and is getting pretty tired. It's a semi-enclosed porch meaning that it is screened in for the summer and then I have polycarbonate I cover the screens with in the winter. I have a rack I made that holds a day's worth of wood at window height in the back porch and I just open the window to get wood. There is a mess on the floor just inside the window from dropping wood on the floor but we have hardwood floors so it's not a big deal. Way better than tracking it through the house though.

It cost ~$2600 for the insert and titanium alloy chimney liner... then about another thousand for a few chainsaws, a couple dozen chains, and a few bars plus some concrete blocks, T-posts, bungee cords, and tarps. It paid for itself after two years, all saved money now. It costs about $300/month to heat with oil so it doesn't take long. I have a fairly good system for dealing with wood but it doesn't work well when the snow is deep. I lived in the Keweenaw Peninsula for quite a while and never thought I'd see this kind of snow downstate.

Wrath, it sounds like you have a good system.

I keep a couple weeks worth of wood in the garage, put it in a hand tote and carry it through the laundry/mud room, kitchen into the family room as needed. It makes some mess but if I'm careful it's not too bad. I could keep it on the deck off the family room and avoid the laundry/mud room and kitchen. Doing it this way would create more work though, I'd have to keep a path cleared and the deck snow free.

So just today we paid our 3.95/gallon 150 gallon propane bill and told the company that we needed to get on their cycle again since we are at 15%. Someone tell me they weren't simply exploiting the cold and gouging the shit out of all of us after reading this; she said they'll deliver 200 gallons at $2.59/gallon! Now c'mon, just a few weeks ago I payed 3.95...but the shortage was totally legit.
:bsflag:

The refill of small tanks (think: bbq, portable heaters) has increased from around 14$ to 20$ per 15lbs exchange since late Jan to now.

ugh

I do think there was a shortage of Propain or at least where the Propain was located. It's been a silly cold winter to this point and it caught people off guard. These places probably prebuy just like we do for the season and they started running short on product. Just like a dope man, when supply is low and demand is high you can charge more for the regos.
