House HVAC humidifier leak

How likely is it for an old humidifier pad to cause a water leak? I've got some water coming out of the bottom of my humidifier at the HVAC trunk. Not sure when the pad was last changed. Just wanted input before proceeding.

Open up the housing and take a look inside. I had a leak in mine a month or so ago and it just turned out to be a cracked hose. I replaced the pad anyway since you're supposed to change them annually.

While asking about humidifiers... Mine stopped working last year and I never looked into it.
I have turned it on and can here the control on the furnace check but it does not seem to be getting water to the pad. it has the little electric valve on top of the humidifier. is there anyway to check that to see if its working? Where is a good place to get this part? I am in Clinton Twp.

Great Dane (16 and Gratiot) seems to have a bunch of stuff in stock. They quoted me $23 for the humidifier pad, which is competitive with other stores
