when i read reiko's post i had zero idea what is the correct statement. Im going to be coming to this change soon and am too thinking about a dog and/or gun. With a newborn coming im leaning towards a gun though....

Odie is on point at all times. If someone is in the yard, not only do the dogs around me bark, but if they are in his back yard, he goes insane. My friend came over last week to get something out of my garage, and he said he could hear odie's cage slamming against the side wall of the house and him going crazy. Your right a dog with you behind him with a gun is a double wammy. Its just that my dad was on the detroit police k-9 unit for years, with a lot of his friends. He has had people come at him when he was holding a gun on them,or even try to fight him , but in all his years , if he had that dog next to him, he never had one person try to resist arrest.

I have had a loaded shotgun held to my chest, and i have had a big fucking dog chase me. The dog scared me more.
 
im jumping in this late, but i say, 12ga pistol grip next to the bed, b/c thats stopping whatever in its tracks without a doubt. Also i agree with a non-purse dog to alert and/or scared potentioal people away. then a 9mm under the pillow if you live in the getto on top of the 12ga and dog. thats just me........

I'm not in the ghetto by any means.. Ferndale isn't a rough area... but I'm only a quarter mile north of 8 mile and I've seen some pretty shady people walking thru late at night, and i've seen people and heard neighbors say they've had intruders come in back yards and find stuff missing from garages. I'm contemplating 2 at this point. Maybe get both. 12 gauge as well as a little glock. I'm going to start looking into pricing and seeing how much this will cost me. If anyone has any leads or knows of a legitimate sale let me know

i've shot both, and glocks just feel/shoot better in my hand.
 
A few of my friends keep tellin me to get the XD9 also over a 12 gauge. They all have an arsenal to choose from. I guess I just need to get them to let me shoot some and decide which feels best in my hands.
