Home brew guys

Got a question about home brewing beer. My girlfriend got me a kit for my birthday last month and I'm days away from when it's supose to be ready to be put in the fridge and be able to drink it. I literally followed the steps exactly being this is my 1st time brewing. So anyways after it sat for a few weeks to ferment I filtered it out and bottled it. Put the cough drop looking things in the bottle that are supose to be for carbonation. And let them sit for 2 weeks to carbonate. Well like I said I'm like 2 days away from drinking it and there's a sludge on the bottom of all the bottles and I'm assuming it's from the carbonation drops.

What did I do wrong ? I can't see the sludge going away in the next day or 2 so I doubt this beer is going to be any good.

Its fallout of yeist and any grains that were bottled. When you pour just leave the last ounce or so in the bottle and rinse it out. You can drink it also as its harmless and actually nutritious(the yeast).

I've brewed quite a few 5 gal batches, it is yeast falling out of suspension. It could also be due to following the instructions too closely. Did you check starting gravity or final gravity before bottling?

Reference HomeBrewTalk, they have some nutjobs on there. I mean, down to the tap water quality lol

awesome, I was hoping it would be something like that. . . and this kit did not mention anything about gravity.

my next and final question is, a few of these bottles seem to have seeped out a little threw the cap ( only a drip or so ) , im thinking its just from when I bottled them a little beer was on the rim of the bottle or something. if I hold them upside down all the caps hold and theres no leaks. I don't know maybe im just nervous seeing this is my 1st batch. anything to be worried about ?

as Charlie Papazian (the father of homebrewing) would say, RELAX and have a homebrew. you should throw a couple on ice and drink them now, you don't always have to wait 2 full weeks for the left over yeast in your beer to ferment those sugar cubes you know. as long as you kept it clean during the brew and fermentation stages your beer will be fine. Also even some store bought good beer , not bud light or those but fuller brews will have visible settling yeast in their commercial beer, its good for you, drink it, or leave the last ounce when you pour it in a frosted glass.[
