So there are times when i get these dark halos on the bottom of my shots. it only happens sometimes when i use the built in flash (still dont have an external). any idea of how to keep this from happening? im assuming it has to do with flash timing/exposure etc.

this pic was taken just to replicate the halo at the bottom so dont judge on composition... hah

my rig:
Canon 50D
Canon 24-70mm f2.8L glass

this is pretty mild too, some of them reach into the shot much more.

I'm guessing the lens is sticking out too far and the flash is hitting it? Put a bigger lens on and see if it happens ;)

not my finger...

im thinking its the on camera flash and the lens getting in the way, it is a large body lens..... ive never heard of that problem though...

anyone have a canon external flash they want to sell me????

Bingo. You are getting a shadow from the lens being in the light path from the flash. Use an external flash.

Damn I'm good. External flashes are sweet. Can't wait to get one...or two...or three.

I've got 4 now... 3 580's and a 430 :-p

Swinging by Glazers on the way home to get my new pocket wizards. :)

If your ever looking to let go that 430 to pick up another 580...lets say in the next couple months...

Keep me in mind! I may pick it up..unless i just save more and go for the 580..haha
