Hit me up with some truck cap knowledge

I have a Century bed cap on my truck, and I blew out the lift gate glass over the weekend. Calling around, you have to get a complete gate assembly, and prices start at $375 and go up. I paid $350 for the cap used, so I'm trying to avoid buying a new replacement.

Within the same manufacturer, how different are the lift gates from a cap that fits a Ford vs. Chevy etc... I'm hoping to find another similar cap just for the lift gate parts, and sell off what I don't need.

Thoughts? Anybody have a hookup on truck cap parts?

What kind of truck? The guy I work with has a cap he's looking to get rid of. It's off of a 2010 silverado extended cab. Painted a dark blue

Perhaps just make a plexiglass replacement for the current frame?

I have to shop some more, but I'm seeing $180 for a sheet of lexan big enough to cut a window out of.

I found another cap for $200, but needs to be painted to match. Might be worth it..

Plywood, then just cut a hole where necessary to see out the back...
or maybe you could drill a bunch of small holes for a perforated look and keep it stealth.

If my wife wasn't driving it so much I'd consider it. I was actually thinking of aluminum diamond plate with a backup camera.
