High Output Alternators - What do I Need to Know and Where to Get

My Camaro needs a higher output alternator to run additional accessories such as electric water pump, trans cooler fan, large fuel pump, pump controller, etc, etc.

The model I need is quite common, it's a CS144. When I search online, I see a lot of variation in offerings for different amperage and suppliers, warranties, etc. I did more reading and found that in some cases a high output alternator will deliver lower voltage at idle, and that's a trade off. Is that true?

I'm looking for something in the 220-250 amp range. I see triple, dual, and single bridge rectifiers, HD regulators and/or self igniting. 300 volt, non-avalanche diodes and the jargon goes on.

What and who have people had good luck with and what are the hidden issues that can arise? I want something that is good quality that will plug in to the factory harness and connections. However, my alternator has been relocated.

I always rely on the "specialist" to determine what’s best for use once I know a few personal criteria of purpose. That specialist should know what's tried and true, all vast options, & provide you with a close selection that should fit your needs.

1. RPM range of engine
2. Belt size options. (what length & ribs are available to accommodate the alternator's needs.
3. Load (amps minimum required to run efficiently)
4. Battery type for which the alternator will be supporting (Standard acid, Gel [Marine], or Lithium)
5. Engine bay temps (can often be resolved with #4 above)
