was wondering what everyones opioions are HIDS. I am thinking about putting sum 8000 on my 1998 camaro (white). My gauge piller is the cobalt gauges so they light up blue at night. I already have silver stars should i buying a set of HIDS for 200 or save my $$$ and get sumthing eles?
 
Honestly do NOT just get hid bulbs and put them in your stock headlights. All that does is make your lights SUPER bright and you have hot spots of REALLY REALLY bright light all over the road. I did it for a week in my cavalier and hated it. I then bought some Lexus RX330 Projectors and fabed them into my stock headlights and now i LOVE them. Super bright and no hot spots. And no glare for oncoming drivers. If your going to do HIDS please do them right and with projectors. Also alot of the cheep aftermarket HIDs suck so make sure you get a good set with a warranty.

i'm going to have to 100% disagree with home slice above me. i have the 8000k HID's in my SS. Tony "huggerZ" has them as well in his car. since the camaro's have 2 seperate bulbs for high and low, the low beam part is aimed lower then the highbeams, where as the cavaliers if i recall correct have a 9007 which is the highbeam/lowbeam in 1 bulb/housing so they would appear to just be bright and useless. but the camaro's work very well. whitehawk Geoff has some HID's in his Z as well, but his are like the really low ones that are white and not blue at all.

Mine are OK. I like the white light personally because of how easy on the eyes it is while you are driving. They are not much more streakey than they were before. I had to spend a little time aiming them, but after I got them aimed properly they are better than stockers.

james, meccas are actually just mid brand chinese hids that are rebranded in the mecca packaging and priced double. Usually if you buy the Hids on ebay that are in the ball park of about 200 to 220 you are getting a decent set of HIDS. Pay attention or ask the seller about little things like if the tabs that hold the bulb in are metal or plastic, has anyone ever complained about fitment ( i have installed cheap ones for friends and had to spend more than a few hours doing the install because i had to shave down the tabs on the bulb to actually fit the housing.) are they only warranteed during the shipping, stuff like that...

i just posted a really long explanation in the group buys section of the forum about hids, there is a little more information about hids in there if you care to look...if you have any other questions or need a point in the right direction on which ones to buy send me a pm. I used to sell a ton of these things before the economy got bad...now 250 bucks for a set of headlights is absurd to most people...by the way you will probably spend about 400 for a set of meccas for fords...a little less for your camaro but you will have to buy a different set for the highs and lows, i only run the lows on mine...
