Hiding the engine harness on my fox

Well it's winter time and that means it's time to do some projects. Right now I have the dash taken out of my 82 GT so I can clean up the dash harness and get it all taped back up...the last guy hacked the hell out of it. I decided that I want to hide the engine harness too but don't know how to go about doing it. Do you run everything on the other side of the firewall behind the dash or what? Where do you mount the starter silenoid? Any pictures would be a great help. It's a carb car so the harness is much simpler that the EFI harness. Thanks.

The harnesses that run to the headlights, horns and such go behind the fenders. the starter relay, you can do a few ways. One, is hide it behind the fender and figure out a way to keep it safe from the majority of water, another is to leave it as it sits and bring the wires/cables through the apron, then back out the same way.

The firewall harness Ive seen done by, placing it in the cab, or taking the corrugated tubing off, and taping it all together. When tapped up, an EFI harness is almost unnoticeable when placed under the firewall lip, where it was to start.

The rest of the wires that are on the engine itself, they are up to you to figure out the best way to run them.

Sadly, most answers to this question is to swap to a carbed motor. So, this is probably overkill/overlaod for you.

Thanks man that really paints a clear picture!!!

the firewall lip trick worked wonders for me.

i have no starter solenoid. i use a rebuilt ford mini starter (later model 5.0), a primary fuse box behind the instrument cluster to replace the fusible links. only the necessary wires show in the engine bay and they're actually pretty subtle. i ran a dozen wires that go to the instrument cluster/computer thru the dashboard, there's plenty of room there. battery is in the back, have a junction block near where the computer harness pokes thru the firewall by the passenger side strut tower.

i'll post pics when i get a chance... don't have any since i did all this.

If this isn't ia DD car, I'd remove all the unnecessary wiring too. It'll make it easier to hide less wires.
