Here is Sweet Pea

This is my 72 nova. Currently it's motor-less due to a street race that i just had to win. It will be big block power with a 200-4r by mid summer if all goes well.

Let me know what you guys think.

Mike.

yep, looks like the w2w car.
Leave the paint and wheels just like that - nice sleeper :D

This is going to be a lot of typing.

:hmm: We need more details about this street race that you had to win!

I was coming out of the bearing burners show/cruise in downtown Mt. Clemens in august of 2001. I was at the light on 59 and gratiot and two kids in a 2000/2001 ss camaro throw a few revs my way and ask if I want to GO.
My wife was behind me in her car and started giving me the, " oh brother here we go look". I wasn't going down to two kids in their dads car!!!

I was packing a 11-1 / 383 and a 200-4r at the time with the little skinny tires {185/14} all the way around. Well when the light turned green i was spinning hard and was at least 4 cars behind {they must of had thier trac control on}. I made the first shift at 7500 and caught up the 4 lengths and was at the middle of their door, by the time i made the 2-3 shift at 7800 i was 6 cars ahead then BANG. The nova turned into a masquito killer {smoke out the tail pipes, under the hood}.

I looked like a damn sky writer going down 59. I pulled into dairy queen on grosebeck and 59,poped the hood and there was oil every where. I nursed it home missing a cylinder, let it cool off, pulled the motor later that night{before i had kids} and tore it down. I ended up ripping the ring lands off the # 7 piston and the rest looked like they were ready to fall off.

This was a motor I built the year that i got married. I called it the marrige minded{$$$} project. I was spending all the real money on the wedding, but i wanted to get my car going. Before the 383 it was a 250/glide car with a cracked exhaust manifold. So i called in favors, used parts, and a little time to get it running. Here were the specs for that motor:

383 cid
powerhouse cast 383 pistons for 5.7 rod $83.00
comp 280H cam $92.00
Stock 400 crank previously turned down for 383 but ended up going .030 under on rods / .020 on the mains to straighten it out $= free
2 bolt block .030 over $= free
Heads were 68 no accy bolt hole heads home brew ported $= free
Victor jr $= borrowed
750 holley $ had it laying around.
Holley mechanical fuel pump $ 35.00

After bearings, main studs, paint, gaskets, trans and converter{by me} I think i had a whopping 700.00 into the whole project. It ran on the small tires that you see in the pix 14.01 at 108 at lapeer. 60ft' 2.00 +, reaction time:don't ask.

It was fun while it lasted. The new rendition of this car will be a real killer. It will still look like it does in the pix.
