Help with custom Cam

Andy- Was this a stroker motor or stock cube? Can you give any other details?

Raj, just run a ported 243 on a stock cube. We have never really seen any stock shortblock build that has been worth the cost/added parts of the l92. sure the heads are cheap, but then you have a manifold, then rockers, then spring upgrades, then... you get the idea. Plus they wouldn't fit w/ the 3.898 bore.

As far as the most powerful combo on our rollers. It was 10.5:1, our 404 stroker, our stage 3 L92 heads, untouched l76 manifold, w/ stock ls2 injectors. IIRC the cam was our stage 2 cam, and it made ~520 RWHP NO other l92 combo (ours, or anyones) has made more then that on our rollers, in fact IIRC the closest had a full point of compression more, about 10* more duration, and .040 more lift. It made ~ 12 less hp, and ~ 20 ft lbs less.

Well what bore size ? Also they have some newer smaller runner ls7 stuff at ET cylinder heads that uses the killer ls7 intake. Pounds the l92 stuff into serious submission.

I'm considering putting some heads on my camaro if I can find some cheap. Was looking in to those l92s, but it seems like for a stock cube motor the 243 based heads would be better? What do you guys think?

it will be much easier to just get CnC'd 243 heads and you dont have to change the intake. I got a great deal on the intake, larger throttle body, rockers and misc parts so I decided to go ahead and give it a try. If you look you can find those parts and migth come out at the same $$.

Andy-thanks, you are saying the right things to help me decide on a cam and get this thing back on the road.

Stock bore, 3.8whatever. LS7 stuff is not budget lol. This car is just a beater, don't want to put a bunch of money in to it.

That's cool, I'll see what I can dig up for cheap on the web. Actually the Livernois heads are pretty cheap, stage 1 would probably be fine?

520rw n/a with only 10.5 compression is freakin' awesome.

If you want really budget heads that work well the livernious stage1 head is pretty good. I got a flow sheet from independent facility if you want to see it.

Yessir, that was a late night :D

Raj, what kind of cam would you be running? the stage 1 is good to ~.580 lift. The stage 2 is good to .690 and has some more hand work done as well.

You cant go wrong with either, there are some ls2 guys making around 470 on our stg2/stg2 package.

Raj, send me your email and I will send you our complete flow test, I had a copy of seans, but now can't find it. IIRC we actually flowed higher on the low lift numbers (wuite a good bit in some cases) and were only down 2% on the high numbers. Considering it was going from a superflow 600, to a superflow 1020 (which usually is 2-5% lower then a 600) Everyone was quite pleased.

Andy- My car is cam only right now, with a custom cam that Larry came up with. If I put heads and intake on it, maybe I'd change the cam too. Please email me the sheet, fryguy302@gmaildotcom
