Help valuing a vehicle to sell

I have an 2008 Mariner V6 4x4 that I have been trying to sell with 87,000 miles. Unfortunately it has a rebuilt title (will never buy another) and I got virtually no interest when I had it listed at $6800. There are several similar V6 4x4 listed with rebuilt for around the same price so I don't think its high. Just a reference for your car.

I think the dinged fender/ door will turn away some people even though its minor. $6500 is probably around what its worth IMO.

And $6500 is exactly what I was looking for it, just wasn't sure if that was to high or not. Knowing craigslist, I put it up at $7200, so when someone comes in with $6500, they get what they want (a deal), and I get what I want, $6500.

Rebuilt title = half of what a normal one would sell for at the maximum

You can do like everyone else on CL. Look at the prices on other ads then price yours for $500.00 more because, yours is better because, well YOU own it. Then you list it forever and repost it 10 times and then when the next 5 people add 500.00 to their price. Yours will soon been a better deal.

Oh and don't forget when people actually make you a decent offer, you can also reply back with what KBB value is and then miss out on a chance to sell it, repost it 10 more times, that way another 5 more people can post a car like you have and they add 500.00 to their price because it theirs. At this point yours will seem like one hell of a deal. The problem is, you already missed your chance to sell it, and most people have seen that you've had it listed for so long that, (A.) people will think there must be something wrong with it and (B.) people will be tired of seeing your shit reposted and start flagging your post.

WHO THE FUCK PAYS KBB VALUE. NO ONE!!

I fucking hate CragisList. Everyone wants way more than their shit is worth and wont even consider a fair deal.

When you have something posted for 20-30 days. Your deal is not "to amazing to pass up"

// Rant off

Like I said, I believe that $6500 is a fair deal, for a good condition, working 4WD. What's fair in one persons eyes, may not be in another's.

Just clicking around on CL, I see ad's anywhere from $5,500 for something with the same or higher mileage, FWD, beat up, all the way up to $12,000 (for sale by owner) with 50k miles. The pricing is all over in the midwest.

Who ends up paying kbb pricing?

Im not saying stick hard with no negotiation on the KBB but it is an ok starting point. If he lists it close to "good" condition and is willing to negotiate on price he will sell it. As others said, its tax time and everyone wants a 4wd now that they got stuck in the snow a week or two ago. Also, as stated above, you can always come down on price, its tougher to go up. If he lists it and nobody contacts him, drop the price a few hundred. Hes not asking for "excellent" condition or a ton over KBB value. Everyone knows KBB prices are high but I guarantee that most of the for sale ads on CL use KBB as opposed to NADA. NADA is a much more fair price for buyer/seller but not as many people know about it or use it (unless youre a dealer taking trade-ins)

i had a 05 that i sold a couple years ago was mint had 140k on it and needed nothing. It was worth 7ish and i started out there. I ended up selling it for 5000 after it sat around for 6 months for sale even was parked in front of my work on a busy rd. first people that drove it bought it though

That is understandable. Consider this though, cheap SUVs are getting harder to find and new ones are silly expensive so the used car market is almost falsely inflated.

After trying to sell the my Mariner, this definitely seems true and kinda similar to what Jasper302 said above. All the listed prices seem to be high and sitting for a long time. I had mine priced right where everything else pretty much was at and got almost virtually no interest. Except for one guy who came to test drive it and didn't know it had a rebuilt title or was 4x4...people need to actually read the words in the ad

That's because 99% of people want nothing to do with a rebuilt title. Heck on my last vehicles I ruled out any that had any accident history let alone a rebuilt title.

A rebuilt title isnt the end of the world, You have to do the research first, thats all.

True in a sense, but if you plan on having full coverage insurance on it don't expect to get shit in a payout on a total loss. They'll see rebuilt and you'll be lucky to get half book value.
Not to mention, what if whoever rebuilt the vehicle super glued the blown airbags back in (seen it a bunch of times) or the seatbelts weren't replaced after an accident as required in most cases? That's why I stay away from rebuilts.

Well after some working on the price, I can actually afford to sell it cheaper then than my $6500 I mentioned earlier. Hoping I can get close to low $6k, but still can go lower now.

Just picked up this nice little gem today:

3.5L AWD, Limited Edition. Used, not new. But the first vehicle I've ever had that was the current generation body style, so new to me.

I always use this example. I used to work at a Pontiac dealer.

We had a girl buy a grand am gt and within 3 months wreck it on the eway, every panel was smashed, the front was over inches from hitting the wall, and when someone hit the rear of her car it buckled the roof.. $21k in damage once the work was done. We all stood in amazement when they fixed it instead of totaling it, but the girl wanted it fixed and it only had like 8k miles on it, so they fixed it.

Its got a clean title tho!
