Help - Mercury Grand Marquis won't start

Thanks again for all the help & input. I had the wires & fuel filter replaced, changed the oil. It now is running fine one day and the next it won't stay idling. Someone mentioned that it could be the air mixture (IAC)? Idle Air Control Valve?

Sounds like a bunch of guess work and throwing parts at it. I would 1) check the codes and see what's going on. And 2) have someone that knows what they're doing help you.

From the sounds of it, an IAC isn't going to keep it from starting. It will keep it from idling on its' own but usually won't cause a no start. If it won't idle a simple cleaning with some TB cleaner will more than likely fix it. But the starting issue, my guess would point towards the ignition switch down on the steering column. They go bad more than people think. And once you pull your hair out trying to diagnose it, throw parts at it, etc it ends up being the ignition switch. But like I said, you would be much better off having someone that knows what they're doing help you. Even if you paid a shop, in the long run you'll probably save a couple bucks and have a few hairs left on your head lol

I went to one parts place, but they didn't have the older code scanner needed. I plan to call a couple others here in the area. It starts up every time. It just doesn't always stay running at an idle. Yesterday, it did, we will see today. You are right, I don't want to throw unnecessary parts/money at it. I am OK with the parts that I have replaced so far, as it was probably time for the age and mileage on the car. I think the original problem was solved after replacing the Coil Packs. And, the new wires seem to allow it to start more normal as expected. Thanks again for the input. I appreciate all the help you all are sharing.

I *think* my scanner can read that computer. If its the same as a 95 F150 for checking codes, you can bring it over to my place and I can plug er in.

Should, make sure to have something to clean the terminals in the diagnostic connector
