01 pontiac aztek god awful looking thing

3.4 L New battery new starter

after sitting for a long period the car will start right up and once it reaches operating temp and the vehicle is shut off it will just have one click and nothing. At that point the brake lights will not work and no dash lights.

After pausing a second you can move the key back and all the dash lights will come on along with the headlights and will continue to just click..??? Fuses and relays check out fine the battery cables look fine but no crank ...

Help??

It sounds like it saw a reflection of itself in a window and is now trying to commit suicide.

Haha thats awesome. As far as your problem goes I have no idea where to even start with it . . . although I do believe those azteks had a problem with corrosion in the fuse block under the hood?? I dunno hopefully a GM tech will chime in and help you out.

Im not very familiar with the model itself but gm side terminals tend to corrode inside the plastic alot and even when somewhat looking clean are very nasty in between the eyelets inside the rubber. My old chevy truck used to have a connection further down the ground wire the would corrode bad also. At first i would say the soliniod is heat soaking but it sounds like theres other electrical issues also. Check vehicle/engine grounds also! very important!

my sisters 02 did the same thing.....it's either in the PCM or ECM one of the 2 and i can't remember....i will try and ask her tomorrow

Well from homework and reading I guess theres 2 lines of cables that run under the fusebox that get rubbed by the gear selector cable?? doesn't make much sense since the fusebox is on the passenger side...

Also its common for wiring under the gear selector to corrode....

I did stumble upon 2 forum related topics one is 12 pages and one is 90 pages with 10 top issues with the hatch opening while driving not moving out of park...

Anyone know anything else feel free to chime in and share your .02 cents it would be gladly appreciated!
