Having an issue, repair shop assistance needed

I have a 97 ranger with the 2.3. It has Rear wheel abs(RABS). The abs light is on and the speedometer does not work. I did the first thing I thought of and replaced the VSS on the rear end. Didn't solve the issue. I then spent hours looking online to find out where the self test connector for the abs was and finally, a day later, found it and ran the test. It came back with code 12. The vehicle does have the bullshit wire harness that goes to the pressure sensor on the master cylinder. I also changed the abs module with a junkyard one and still, same problem. No speedo and abs light. I am looking for a wiring diagram, pinout of the module and possibly a diagnosis tree to figure out this problem.

This vehicle may have a vss sensor on the transmission or transfercase ( you did not specify 2 or 4wl dr.
Look @ the transmission extension housing (or rear of the transfercase) for a sensor.
Im willing to bet your problem is just a bad vss sensor. most autozones/murrays stock for 20-30 bucks.
Also....some older rangers you were able to pull a fuse to shut off the vehicles speedometer (and odometer) so miles could not be recorded. I saw lots of vehicles in my time with toggle switches to turn off the speedo....check all fuses first.

It's not a code 12 is a code 3

rabs and rabs2 systems flash 1 time then a series of flashes, then it repeats the cycle all over again. 1 flash then certain number of flashes add them all together and that is your code. Your code is 3, which is a dump valve code, which is located in the abs valve. The resistance of that solenoid is 1 to 4 ohms.

The truck is 2 wheel drive. It has rear abs only. I did pull ALL the fuses and check them. ALL are good. The code that flashes is 11 quick flashes followed by one long flash to give me the 12. I still have no clue as to what it is taht is causing this. I did find out that the vehicle was bought with the abs light already on but the speedo did work. It does not have a toggle on the fuse or that system to shut off the speedo. I am going to try to check to see if the new VSS that I got from autozone is good or not right out of the box.
