im trying to get my junk running . now that everything is all hooked up it will not turn over. it trys to ,but turns just a turn and stops . the motor isa 347 10.5to 1 . the stock starers said it was good to 10 to 1. (witch is what im useing )so i take all the plugs out and it turns petty ez . do i need a hi torq starter. or am i missing something....was go to check the dist to see if its on top dead #1 but like i said it was turning ez with no plugs this car make me want to :uzi:in the back yard who knows new years is around the corner

the only ground on the bat is the - to the frame .. the other strap is the copper(thats what it looks like) from the trans/motor to the firewall

i have no clue what that is ..... the motor is new .never had it running .its in a 86 gt but now has a carb . i didnt build the motor ,a local shop did

i have long tubes on my car and they will kill your starter unless you have the ford mini starter...it came factory on 92-93 5.0 mustangs

it honestly sounds like the starter is bad, if you have an extra one or a buddy that can loan you one to try thats what i would do

im trying to find a pic of the rotor on # one so i can see if thats it . i didnt put the dist in so it can be it ... i dont know where the rotor should point at TDC

Did the engine run prior? Is that what you are saying?

Have you done a voltage drop test on the ground side? Power side?

motor is new never ran ... the relay gets super hot if i try and turn it over with the plugs in .. will have to check timing in day light ...

ok do these steps

1. make sure the engine is at tdc via the rockers or timing pointer.
2. place the rotor to the #1 position on the cap.
3. make sure you have the right firing order (13726548) going COUNTER CLOCKWISE
4. make sure you have ALL grounds hooked up. i added an extra 2ga. ground to my frame from my motor.
5. attempt to start.
6.if it is still turning over like it has been the i would swap out the solenoid. then if that dosent work change the starter with a mini starter

the dist was set by the shop that built the motor . they said it was at tdc
. would like to think its set right , if its off i sure dont feel good about the rest of the motor
