Hand/Wrist/Forearm problems, want advice....

So over the past year and a half, two years, my wrists and hands have been going down hill. I've worked with my hands since I got out of high school be it as a mechanic, in the machine shop, or factory. Even the time in between wrenching and the factory I was typing all day doing estimates and stocking our parts shelves.... I never paid much attention to it but now it's causing me issues.

Both hands go numb.. I wake up with one or both in pain, I'll lose grip in them if I am using them for extended periods of time... Some times when I am pulling something like seating a grommet, pulling on a wiring harness to unhank it, or lining up and pulling an I shaft down to line it up I'll get a pain that shoots from my hand up in to my elbow.

I've been dropping stuff because I just cannot get a tight grip on it. It's quite frankly angering me, like seriously making me mad that I am having problems doing normal every day shit (well, every day shit for me)... As a matter of fact right now my right hand has little grip strength, and hurts if I try to make a fist and can feel it in the tendon all the way up my fore arm.

Has anyone ever dealt with this on here? I am sure someone has....

Sounds like carpal tunnel.. I have radial nerve damage from an accident and have a lot of the same symptoms except my pain goes right up past my elbow into the shoulder then to my neck which gives me headaches at times.

You should probably see a doctor and get it looked at. I use cannabis for pain and it works a lot better than pain pills but the combination of both works best.. to a point where I'll over do things thinking the pains not so bad, but then i'm in pain for a week.

Yeah, in the back of my mind I am pretty sure carpal tunnel. And people swear by and swear against having it treated. It's like people either love it or hate it. And what I read online is to find a specialist instead of a family doc.

My boyfriend is an orthopedic surgeon and we were just talking about this stuff last night. Family doctors try not to refer to specialists (it all has to do with insurance BS). Your insurance might make you go to your family doc before you can see a specialist. Do you notice more pain or numbness in certain fingers more than others?
The problem is not going to fix itself, you need to see a doctor.

There are wrist splints you can wear at night to help with pain.

Thumb and where it goes in to my palm seems to be where it swells up. I'll get numbness in the tips of my fingers, never paid much attention to if its specific ones or not. Like right now if I touch my thumb and ring finger together its really tight and dull in my palm and can feel pressuring pain in to my wrist.

yup its carpel tunnel syndrome Ive been dealing with it for 20 years forced me out of working as a carpenter

the surgery has improved greatly over the years go get it looked at before you do permanent damage like I have

Have you ever tried a chiropractor? I know thats a like it ir love it experience. I start to lose grip strength as soon as I get a Backeotomy Im good to go. It also helps my headaches, hip, knee and elbow pain.

Some of the wrist/hand/forearm pain I have is if I have a tight grip on a wrench, and im pulling hard, when I let go is when my arm and hand start to burn. Almost like my hand doesnt want to open up.

Ps. I didnt reallu want to post, tight grip and pulling hard on MM..... but I didnt know how else to say that.

I go to the Chiro two or three times a year from twisting and turning and tweaking my back at work. Just to loosen me up when I've been laid down across a door opening or bent down under a hood for too long.. it does make me feel MUCH better.

I got once ever other month. Sometimes once a month if Im active. My visits are $42 each... so its pretty affordable, and I see immediate results.

I called my Chiro --- I have an appt for Monday morning. I also called in to work. It's still hurting like hell. Even hurt feeding my son his lunch holding his spoon. I have been taking Aleve all week to dull/hide the pain and that probably made it worse because I didn't go as easy as I should have.

Worst of this is it makes me feel like such a broke dick. I *hate* it. That is worse than the physical pain.

I have not had exactly that or carpel tunel but I have had a cyst in 1 wrist and tendonitis/bruised wrist bone in the other, 2 different occasions.

I used the brace on each and its a good/bad situation. It feels great when you dont really need to do anything and does help. If you take the brace off its like taking a couple steps back and you have to go thru the pain all over again but its less irritated. If I were you, the first step would be to see a specialist and get recommendations or at least set a baseline for any potential damage done to the wrist. Get a checkup to see how things are changing.

My cyst was 2-3 weeks downtime and limited range of motion for 2 months. My bruised bone was 4 months with VERY limited range of motion and no range of motion with my thumb/weakness in the joint and lower than normal clamping force. That one hurt for about 8 month with stinging up and down my arm to my neck which was almost crippling. I got lucky that I caught it early and stopped working out/overdoing it.

I would see your doctor and try to go to a specialist

chrio helps but like jaggirls says go to a specialist i go to chrio once a week ,little help for my back pain

Just thought I would update ya'll. Went to the Chiro and he has been working on my shoulders. Said they were jacked up pretty bad. Went 3 times in a week. My right arm/shoulder was actually out of place and he popped it back in. I think I know when I did that one. Oops.

Anyways, since then they have felt SOOOO much better. Fingers are crossed I do not repeat that.
