Two Die In Apparent Murder-Suicide

Lynn Richards, pictured here from her profile at Caldwell Banker's website, died in Oct. 2007 in an apparent murder-suicide. Authorities believe her husband, Dan, shot her several times before shooting himself. DRAPER - The bodies of two people were discovered at a home at the south end of the Salt Lake Valley on Thursday -- in what authorities say appears to be a murder-suicide.

A home improvement technician contacted authorities after entering the home and finding no sign of the homeowners. The technician was there to perform remodeling work but when no one answered his calls, he contacted authorities.

After authorities arrived, the bodies of Dan Richards, 55, and his wife Lynn were found in an upstairs bedroom. Officials say it appears that the man shot his wife several times and then shot himself. Both died.

Investigators are trying to determine a motive for the incident since the couple had never had a known incident of domestic disturbance before this week. On Wednesday night, authorities say they received reports of a possible domestic incident at the couple's home but when an officer arrived, the home appeared quiet. After receiving no response from anyone inside, the officer left. It is possible that the shootings occurred prior to the officer's visit.

Lynn Richards, 52, worked as a real estate agent for Caldwell Banker and used to live in Hollywood, Calif., where she worked for movie studios and law firms.

The couple moved to Utah in 2003 after they were married to be closer to Dan's children, according to Lynn's profile page on Caldwell Banker's website

here's what he posted about it....

One of my customers may have been killed

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A very odd thing happend today! I picked up a client who's a very well to do real estate agent with a huge local firm. Amoung other things, I'm installing some sweet 5" walnut wood flooring.

Anyway, the lady's husband runs a business out of their home and was insight all day while on his laptop in the kitchen. He's a nice guy, but obviously on meds of some sort. Later in the day, about an hour before I was going to leave I heard some very loud voices, which I thought was a tv upstairs at the time, since I didn't see him any longer and the wifey wasn't due home for over an hour. A little later, I heard some loud pops. Keep in mind, I'm using neumatic tools and am wearing ear plugs. So I pop them out real quick and am just standing there and hear an animal like belowing/moaning/whining noise! It's freaking loud! At first I think perhaps he's fallen over in a sesure (sp?) and is banging on the wall to get my attn, and is in need of assistance.
Then I notice the wife's shoes and sunglasses at the base of the stairs and her car is now out front. Then I hear 3 more pops, and they could easily be .22 or some other small caliber shots muffled behind a few closed doors! The animal like sound was fading out then and I hesitated, but yelled upstairs "Uh, is everything ok up there????" (I should have left then in hind sight, not set myself up for a possible shooting myself) and then a few more pops, and TOTAL scilence!

At this time, I chose to GTF out of there and call it a day. I called both of their phones, which went to voice mail (driving away, as fast as I could within reason) and called a few other contractors on the job to run what happend by them and now I called the local police. They sent a car over, and now her car is gone and no one was home.

It should be an interesting day tomorrow when I go back

Well, after I had called the police last night and told them what I heard and stuff, they sent a car down to check it out. I got a call from the officer who said they checked out the house, knocked on doors and peeked in windows, but turned nothing up. They also said there was only a Navigator out front, but when I left there was an LS out front too. I wasn't too spooked at that point and thought I had over reacted.

I got there this morning to see both vehicles were exactly the way they were when I had left. I knocked on the door, rang the door bell like crazy with no response. I called her cell and left a message that I was out front and could rescheduel if this wasn't a good time. I went and pounded on the door and called again, with no response. I said F*** it, and opened the door to see her stuff at the bottom of the stairs, just I had sceen last night. I did a 180, and called 911. They came in force, went upstairs to find her with multipul gun shot wounds, dead. The husband was found with a one shot to the head, suicide.

I've been there all damn day, repeating what I heard, when I heard it and what I did to the point it's insane. I'm being hounded by the local media, and this totally sucks monkey sack. I feel bad for even joking about it before, but I really thought it was just a misunderstanding.

I've been doing hardwood flooring and finish carpentry for 10 years now, and have gone into a ton of homes. 80% of people are freaks in one way or another, and I had thought when I met these people how nice and normal they were.... it was about time I landed some good solid clients. Wow, was I wrong.
