I just bought a Polish Tantal kit along with a NODAK reciever and Green Mountain Barrel. I have never built an AK and was wonding if anyone here has built them. I dont wanna buy the tools to do this untill I finsh a build and see if I like doing it this way. I am looking for someone to either help me out or reccomend a local gunsmith I can send this too.

Thanks.

Youtube has several videos on bending the receiver flats, if that's what you have. The rest is just rivets that need to be peened over. They sell a bunch of jigs, etc, but I would imagine that if you have an afternoon and some simple shop tools you should be able to get one functioning. They're a pretty simple platform. Good luck!

***EDIT: I'm bored as shit so I looked up some stuff: They have 80% blanks for your construction needs, cheap too. Look here if you haven't already: http://ak-builder.com/index.php?dispatch=categories.view&category_id=239

I bought a complete reciever from NoDakSpud, I think im gonna have this one built by a smith. But im gonna buy a bulgarian 74 kit and try it out my self soon, the riveting seems easy enough, the only area I would be concered is headspacing.

It would be nice to have one for reference while you're building the second. When I buillt my 1919, I ended up making a rivet tool for the air chisel. Chucked up a cheapo tool in the lathe, squared the end and made a small cup that I polished the hell out of and it worked great. Wish I would have heated the rivets because one slipped and now I have about 10 little smiley-faces when it bounced off the rivet. Either way, those work well that way for when you do make one yourself. As for headpacing, yeah, you really want to be careful there, but there are TONS of sites for info on that.

I work with a gun smith, but he isnt an Ak guy, he is an HK guy. Next time im in the working I'll ask for his buddies info who is the AK guy.

Yeah I have a SGL-31 already, and have always wanted a Polish Tantal. So instead of learning the ropes on a Tantal ill just buy a cheap bulgarian kit and have at it.

Sounds like a good plan. I can't help with a gunsmith but seems like we have a resident one on here. SWEET!
