Gun Crew.... In defense of the 9.

dozens of stories like this over the years. Does not matter what you are using if you are trying to stop a druggy or a spooked deer. You must hit the things (read vitals) that keep them motoring/attacking and BREAK them.

Also, 23x is at least one reload regardless of weapon choice.

clearly shot placement was lacking

Thats obvious! Shoot someone in the head or spine with anything and they probably arent going to bother you much more. The first few rounds from that cop were probably fired with the non-lethal mindset. Then its, ok this guys high it will take a couple more non-lethal, then he reloads thinking holy shit this guys gonna kill me and starts firing as fast as he can pull the trigger hoping to drop him in a panic.

Ill see if I can dig up the magazine, Im sure I still have it. It was from like 85 or 86.

And you're comparing old bullet technology to new technology? Did you even read the article?!

And i'm telling you what a police officers VIEW of it was. If you READ my post. I didn't speculate or guess. I telling you the view of people who have actually been in the situation and what they have seen.

And how long ago was this??? Bullet technology changes faster then anything...

It there something seriously wrong with you?

I comment on scooters post about putting a lot a little holes in a target, rather than one big one.
Then i provided a few people's personal view, of what they liked in a weapon, Under REAL LIFE events.

You start talking some garbage about lining people up and shit, and everyone would feel it PERIOD.

Red then added FACTUAL information about someone that was shot and did not feel it.

What are you trying to prove? that the 9mm is a good round ?
It is a good round. Its a very common round , people love it. Its a joy to shoot at the range.

Is that what you want to hear?

Is there seriously something wrong with you thinking cause a few people say one thing it's all of a sudden it's absolutely right and nothing can be wrong? :jagoff:

You say a 9mm gets hit and they go ouch? Are you kidding me???

Like I said before and I will say it again... 9mm or 357 and you will fall on your face... Go a head and quote me if you want...

The point of the article was to say that projectile technology has changed and to try to change people's perceptions that bigger is better. Lunger's dad and friends are of the old mindset.

It's the same as the old racers who say that a fuel injected car could never be as fast as a carb. Times change. Some people never will.

It is about shot placement. I heard stories of people getting hit with 7.62x39s and not feeling it because of adreniline and where the bullet hit. I also saw a news story where a guy took 2x JHP .40SW to the chest and walked away in cuffs under his own power.

Shot placement is crucial! For those drugged up PCP lovers there has been dicussion of what to do if 23x shots to the chest wont bring them down. One theory which I like is to aim for the pelvis (pelvic bone region). If that bone shatters no matter how much adrenilin or PCP is in you, your body will not be able to stand at all.

Opposed from shot placement I still think round makes a difference.

A 124gr @ 1200fps 9mm will not do the same thing as a 200gr @ 1200fps 10mm Auto, simple as that.

LOL ok i will.

The famous 125 grain .357 JHP bullet, the most effective one shot stopper of all handgun loads, penetrates 13.25" in ordinance gelatin and produces a football shaped stretch cavity. This is how the very best bullets perform. And bullet performance has a great effect on stopping power.

I shot a .357 Sig at a range once and I couldn't imagine putting 10 shots on a piece of paper. That thing kicked like a mule. I could put 10 in a junkie with a 9 mm but I doubt I could with the .357 Sig.

And you are talking a revolver aren't you? Who carries those as their primaries anymore? I thought it was all .357 Sig and .40 S&W?

This is why I talk guns on a car site. I can go to a dozen gun sites and find out how wrong my caliber selection is from battle scarred veterans and dozens of people who talked to them once.

insert arguing on the internet cartoon here

10 out of 10 postban's and jsxtreme's agree....... 9mm and lots of training are the way to go.

I'd rather have more rounds on me. In a gun fight your accuracy goes out the window.

Pull-point-empty-reload- repeat until the threat is gone.

Yep this was before the police where issued glocks. My dad switched over to the 40 cal. when the detroit police issued them. More rounds and a easier gun to handle.
The 357 does tend to hurt the hand after a bunch of rounds, the 40 is more enjoyable to shoot. Myself i have a better grouping with the old revolver, but at the range i seldom use the hot loads, just basic .38 wad cutter or something

Wouldn't the 500 S&W be the most effective one shot stopper?

The point is that the most effective stopper goes through the point most likely to stop said assailant. And a 9mm is incorrectly thought of as incapable of doing so. I prefer big bullets because I am not an expert shot and probably would not have a steady hand while shooting at someone.

That is the worse thing you can do...

I understand the theory that a weapon with less kick is more accurate, especially when under pressure. I have 2 caliber pistols, my 2 45's and my 380. My line of thinking says that with my poor shooting under pressure, Im going to either A. hit you and do ALOT of damage with the bullets that do find their mark or B. Assailant is gonna freak at the size of the gun shooting at him and run. Thats the hope anyways.
