With the high cost of .223, 7.62x 39, and .308 these days, it had really put a end to my shooting at least once a week. Well thanks to a heads up from postban, I found a cheap solution to keep me shooting as often as I like.

The solution: Bulgarian Century Arms AK-74 chambered in 5.45 x 39.

•Build on Nodak Spud Receiver
•Polymer Stock
•New U.S. Made Barrel and Stamped Receiver
•Muzzle Brake
•Barrel 16.25”
•Overall Length 37”
•Siderail Bracket Installed on Rifle

You can have one, shipped right to your FFL for just $369.99:

While these aren't the very best quality AK's, your bang for the buck is hard to repeat. Mine ran flawlessly today, the trigger was surprising nice for an AK, probably the best I've ever felt. And I've owned SAR-1's, SAR-2's, and a couple other Romy variants. My only complaint is the furniture, it's a cheap polymer set. Smells like burning plastic every time you heat it up, which is fantastic.

While the 5.45 x 39 isn't readily available at most gun stores, it is very cheap online at a couple of ammo surplus sites. You can get of 1080 rounds of Russian surplus for just $129.95 to your door. :gr_patrio That's just $.12/round compared to the $.50/round you'd pay for .223 at most retail stores.

It's corrosive as hell, and it's imperative that you get some windex down the bbl as soon as you can after shooting it (the ammonia neutralizes the salts) but for these prices the little extra work is well worth it.

This is the results from today, 25 yards, iron sights and right out of the box. Nothing has been adjusted on this gun.

So go, buy, and shoot shoot SHOOT!!!! :gr_patrio

excellent review and information. Looks like I'll hopefully be able to finally go see a Beretta cx4 in person sometime soon which should quickly tell me if its the type of weapon system I'm looking for.
Def keep me posted as to when your AR pistol will be in

Cool. Let me know when you shoot one and how you like it.

Another 40 day wait for me at least. :crap:

looks nice, seems to me I saw a 10round cali legal AK not too long ago for $199

Probably a WASR, crappy single stack mag config, Draco stock shit. Dime a dozen. Ok if you want to plink, but good luck finding mags.

yea it was a WASR, I was looking into how hard it was to convert it to a regular mag but ended up getting something else. If you're just looking to plink it seemed ok. The price was right (shrug)

You can dremel out the mag well to accecpt double stack mags. They're considered the lowest quailt. AK's. They still run like an AK though!

That uses the same round, right? 5.45 x 39. AIM surplus has a lot of commie ammo right now. Corrosive as hell, but it's good stuff and it's cheap.

yes, same round, the tantal is a somewhat unique version of an AKMS, uses AK74 mags

Tantal was the Polish version of the late AK74 (AKM variant) - nomenclature of Wzor-88.

Major differences include:

Fire selector on the left side near the rear allowing for single, full auto, and a three round burst.
Muzzle break also acts as a grenade launcher spigot.
Sights have a vial of radium gas to allow for lowlight/night shooting.
