Grey Evo 8 turns Black with Metallic Flakes

These guys did an amazing job on my car. At first I was trying to install a ratchet shifter in my drag car, but once they started with the polishing, I just had to stop my install work and I really couldn't help myself but watch what they were doing , Truely magical..... There is nothing better than drinking beer and seeing the transformation of your vehicle with your own two eyes.

This car has 99,600 miles on it, and I drive it every single day from work to home about 70 miles round trip . it is also driven in the winter months. definitely not a garage queen.
 
thanks dirtybird, Are ricers allowed on this site though :) ... I was always been more concerned with the underhood stuff, and to be honest, I did not know that there is a proper washing technique,which I think is a large reason, why the paint looks like poop, but away with the excuses autolavish did a great job..

Stick around Warren... Trust me - these guys put up with Chunky..... They are not import haters.. Dropspeed is on here with his Evo :)
 
Antilag.....I know you said you didn't know about a proper wash technique, could you elaborate on how you were washing it? When I see a car like that I immediately think "drive through car wash weekly" and "dawn dish soap, scrubbing brushes, and a bath towel for drying." Of course, I've seen dealerships swirl some cars up pretty bad with just one wash. Note- I am not ripping on you, as we all learn at one time or another on how to wash while inducing the least amount of harm possible.

I am sure Autolavish sent you in a good direction on how to wash while protecting the finish.

Edit- welcome aboard. You'll find a few Evo's around here.

Golden-- I have owned this car for a little over 4 years, I washed it at least once every two weeks... if not every week.
This was the method that I used prior to autolavish detailing the car

In the winter times, I would take it through a car wash ( touchless) that has the high pressure hoses on it. after the car passed through the blowers, I would then, take a squeege ( sp) and remove as much water as possible and then drive off

In the warmer months... Take it to the car wash, where I would first pre soak it , then use the foaming brush that is at the car wash, followed by a soap high pressure water mix, then rinse, then applied the spotless treatment. Basically I was just following the step downs that are at most common car washes. I would then use my squeege ( sp) to get the excess water of the car, followed by a Leather Chamois. Thats it.... I have been doing this for years........... with other vehicles too.

I now know better... I tried for the first time a few days ago The Two bucket method, trying to make the least amount of contact with the paint...I dried the car with a synthetic chamois, followed by waffle microfiber towels and then applied quick detail.. All that took me no more than 40 minutes to complete.
 
This thread got me motivated to go out and detail my car. Clay bar, scratch-x, and two coats of wax took it from looking like the Evo to...

most def a good crowd here anti-lag. Much more mature type of folks it seems compared to some other places...

people also show a lot more love and appreciation for all cars without all the hating that some places have...
I hope after all we did to it and it's super-slick finish/protection, it should be quite easy to care for from now on. Because you keep it outdoors, it'll need another coat of wax in 4 or so months, but don't forget we'll hook that up as long as you come to our side of the state ;)

Additionally, don't feel bad about swirls - they happen to all of us, and your Evo's paint is SSSOOOOOO soft, there's no way possible to keep it 100% swirl/defect free. Everytime you touch your paint, you're risking marring/swirling/etc.


Good to see that baby looking nice GrandmaLS!!! Swirl-X has been a popular over the counter product for good reason. For a real sick combo - try the new Color-X afterwards. It's less abrassive so will help give more gloss and clarity while the Swirl-X will help with defects ;) . For more information, and even better information than I have off the top of my head about Meguiar's products, check out meguiarsonline :thumbsup:

EDIT: Warren, depending on which QD you're using, you'll get much longer protection/a better lasting shine. Make sure you only mist it - more isn't better, and use good microfiber towels to gently wipe it off ;)

Most of us have been there! As Mutt Grunt just mentioned, every time you touch paint, you risk causing swirls/scratches. So don't feel too bad about it! The car looks amazing now, and your new method should yield awesome results for ya!

I'll have to try that next time. I remember seeing the Color-x and comparing it to the Swirl-x. I chose swirlx because my cars black paint. I'll have to combine them when I detail it again.
