Since ordering my 2008 in July of 2007 and having her delivered in September 2007, I have always wanted to do the widebody kit. The car has been my baby, something always dreamed of and planned on keeping for a loooonnggg time. Similar to my dad, I have tried to buy my "toys" when possible and then keep them for a while - if not forever.
This winter, I was able to get the panels for the GS conversion. Loved the side cove over the Z06 and ZR1 - and the cost was alot better on the GS panels! All GM panels are being used, no aftermarket here. I had some concern taking a beautiful 3,600 mile car apart that was in show room condition. I followed Atomic Vette's direction on taking her apart. The directions were very helpful, with only a few minor differences.
Below are a ton of pics that I wanted to share. The project has been A LOT easier than I ever thought it would have been! Literally take a panel off and test of fit the other panel.
I still need to get all the liners and trim pieces - although I still have a few months left of winter.
Hardest part of the project so far... Putting the car on jackstands!
Paint will be done by myself and dad. He has been painting all his life and I'm still getting the hang of it. This project I wanted to complete on my own, with only a few helpful hints from the old man.
Heres the pics:
Last pic of her all together....
Front fenders and bumper removed - took less than an hour to get to this point!
I could not believe the way the hub was rusted! The car has only been washed a half dozen times in 5 years! Never seen a cloud let alone rain!
GS fenders test fit (no screws holding them on yet)
This was a hard picture to take... The perfect, no chipped bumper sitting in the basement!
Rear test fit
Wow, ALOT wider!
Front bumper test fit
Mess of parts.... What am I doing???!!!
Fit was almost perfect! Again no screws. Glad I went with OEM panels, it almost went together to easily!
If you squint, you can almost see a completed project!
And the wheels I will be using.
Stay tuned for more of the story!
