hey this is bluehawks and sparkys kid eric...

i just gotta g6 gtp 6 speed and im going to the track but i got some questions about drag racing with a stick..

1. i redline and 5800 rpm's.. what should i shift at while racing??

2. how the hell do you do a burnout with a stick...??

3. should i have traction control on or off...??

id apritiate it if you helped me out... im runnin this car with just a cold air intake on then after every mod im going to run it to see the diffrence...

and if you got any other pointers thatd be gr8... thanks alot

1. 5800

2. if you're on street tires don't waste your money/tires on doing a burnout. if you have tires for racing then ask again.

3. try it with both, see what works better. i'd imagine off will produce better results, but thats what drag racing is about...seeing what works and what doesn't.

The G6's have a program that will kill performance if it senses wheel hop... Your best bet is to keep traction control off... shift at redline...

Are you running stock tires? Cause if so a burn out really won't help you...

yeah stock tires... but i do have another set brand new for winter...

and thanks for the awnsers... i plan on havin my car run alot faster next year... im only 300 dollaz from getin the supercharger and stronger shit so it can take it... and i do have an exaust on order comin in like 2 weeks and same with a ecu upgrade so i should have this runnin 13's by next summer

It's not having another set of tires, it's that street tires aren't made to get much stickier from heating them up (doing a burnout) The only thing you're doing by doing a burnout on street tires is wasting useful tread.

If you're running on street tires, drive around the water box and up towards the line. If theres someone in the other lane doing a burnout, just sit there for a second (not quite up to the starting line yet) and let them finish before you pull up to the staging lights. If they aren't doing a burnout, just pull up to the lights and wait for the lights to drop.

Do a quick spin of the tires to clean stones and other junk off/out of em. Out of the waterbox ofcourse.

im in chicago right now.. im going to union grove...

and what do you mean by doing a quick spin like punch it then stop it to squeel the tires a lil or what???

do u know how to burn rubber in that front wheel drive monster? lol just do a small burnout, no forced stop required

As you go around the waterbox, and start to straighten the car back out, just drop the clutch and spin the tires a bit to clean them off. Nothing major. You don't really need to do a smoky burnout but cleaning the tires off and getting them semi-warm will help.

To burn rubber in a front drive car, just apply your parking brake (effectively line locking the rear wheels), rev and dump the clutch (driving the fronts) and you should be burning out. Just don't forget to release the park brake and you are good to go. That is how many grand prix guys did burnouts.

But as stated above, street tires to not need to be warmed up. I ran my wife's IS300 at the track and got plenty of traction off the line with no burnouts or anything. Camaro was not able to make it to the track that day (in case you were wondering why I didn't take the fun car) due to a leaky rear and soft clutch.

If your car is drive-by-wire, then you might have to pull your traction control fuse to do a park brake burnout. My Grand Prix GTP knew when the brake was on and wouldn't let you get in the throttle... Bastard...

As for shift points, I'd say play with them a bit and see what gets you the best ET. Try a little lower and a little higher RPM, ifyou rev it too high, worst that happens is you bounce the rev limiter, no big deal. If you have a good feel for what's going on and you feel the car stop pulling hard as it gets into the higher RPM's shift there and see how that works. If you are playing with it a bit you might watch where the RPM's drop back down to on the shifts and try to shift so that they fall down to the RPM the peak torque is rated at (something you can look up I'm sure if you don't know it). Just shifting at redline isn't necessarily gong to yeild the best results.
