while i was workin and looking at guns i said fuck it i wanna own my own rifle.. so i bought a dpms the other day.. its a cheaper one but i just wanted something to shoot with and have fun plus i got a stupid deal on it so i couldnt really say no.

fun gun, louder then i thought they were. iv'e allways been an ak person. but i had to get something differant since my father has an ak i can shoot when ever.

still gotta get some kinda optics for it.. i think my buddy still has the red dot that came on his piston driven sig he has.. going to try and buy that off him. but i shot it anyways without sights on it yesterday just to get a feel for it and i like it.

sorry for the bad cell phone pic.

had to sticker it up lol

one thing i dont like is how hot these guns and how fast.. i shot 60 rounds and i was burning my hand if i griped the rails...think im going to use those utg things cover things on them or what ever they called.. im just not a big fan of forward grips but i might have to change my stance on that soon.

I've had my ar for alittle over a year now and it has yet to let me down. I've blown probaly 1000 rds through it I just make sure I clean it good and not over lube it. I have an after market, grip, quad rail, surefire flashlight for home use. With or without the add ons id trust it stock to protect me and my family. Btw its a bushmaster

yea i personally wouldnt use mine for home defense.. just cause i live in a dense city and when i miss a few times (in the rush of a home invasion) i dont wanna kill someone from a stray shot. i keep it at my dad's house in the country cause my mossburg 500 and my 40cal pistol are good enough around the house and dont gotta worry about it going though a wall with the 500

and i live in the hood and would be really sad/pissed if it got stolen when i wasnt home

40 cal is going to go through more walls than a shotgun. And a shotgun is going to go through just as many walls as a AR

.223/5.56 is actually one of the least-penetrating rounds when it comes to walls.

There are too many factors to determine what the best home defense weapon and ammo are. Any round that will penetrate a bad guy enough to reach their vital organs, will also penetrate several walls if you miss. http://www.theboxotruth.com/ has a lot of good info on this sort of stuff.

BTW: Congrats on the AR15. Love these rifles.

I'm an AK guy also, but I might have to own an AR-15 one day. They're a lot of fun to shoot.

not with gameload's in it.. and those will do the job at 5-20ft.. and the 40 will go pretty far with fmj's found that out with a few phonebooks one night.. but i try to keep the hollows with the rubber ball in the middle in my clip near the bed.

not saying a ar wouldnt work for home defense but for me its just too long and not worth it coming up missing when someone breaks in while im at work.

and the walls in most the houses over here are plaster and will stop alot better then drywall

Then I would suggest using 00 Buck instead of bird shot. Bird shot is not going to take down a bad guy. Especially one with the adrenaline going. 00 seems to be that middle ground. It's strong enough to stop someone and it doesn't go through as many drywall pieces in testing. There are cases where people were shot with game load and checked themselves into the hospital or simply were able to walk around and waited for an ambulance to arrive. It will obviously do damage, but I'd rather stop someone dead in their tracks vs. slowing them down. It's your call obviously.

You're a dumbass if you're going to use birdshot to defend your house.

You're an even bigger "dumbass" if you think a .223/.556 round will penetrate less then #4 Buck. 62gr @ 3200fps. or 21 .24in pellets@1300fps. Hi-power rifles are generally not a good HD setup unless you live in a rural setting where over-penetration is not an issue. If I lived in a shared-wall dwelling I would not hesitate for a second to load up a pump 12ga with birdshot. May not kill, but take a round or two of birdshot to the face at 12 feet and see if you don't seriously consider changing whatever course of action you are pursuing.
