LS1s don't need to be built very well to go fast anyways. Mine had stock block, heads, and crank and moved out okay. Rods and pistons and you're ready for 8's. Just don't spin it over 8k for 100 passes and you'll be okay from my experience.

Now my little SBC on the other hand...it can't go fast with a rocket attached to it.
