Long story short. My Son lost the only key to our 2000 Alero. It's in my driveway however tomorrow at 8:00am the gravel train gets here to unload gravel then the dozer/backhoe will be here. Can't change any of this and the car's Locked. How do I get it replaced and 2nd how horrible is the cost?

I have title to show ownership.

I don't know about GM but I lost my keys to my Grand Marquis up at Ferris and went to the local Ford dealership with my registration. They cut me a key on the spot for like $10 or something small like that.

*edit* I have the key pad on my driver's door. I could get in the vehicle to get my registration but not start it.

Thank GOD Keys were located in his old coat. One day he may get to drive it. It's been sitting waiting since Nov for him to get his license. He really didn't like my last ditch solution of having the dozer just push it somewhere.

Glad you found it.....but i do believe if you ever do need a key cut, it can be done with a VIN and some ID showing you are the owner. Any GM dealer should be able to do it.

I'm the king of locking keys in my truck. When I bought the truck, it didn't have keys (stolen recovered). Ford towed the truck to Whitfield Ford under warranty and I bought 4 chipped keys for $100.

I also have two valet keys (will unlock but won't start) without the chip. I keep a valet key on a belt loop when I leave in the morning. I need a clapper sometimes to find my keys around the house.

Easy to replace, have the person who owns the car go to a dealer, with a VALID registration and proper ID in hand.

Dealer can go into DealerWorld and get the keycode info and should be able to cut one right there on the spot.
