'Glides????

Hi Guys,

Looking for info/impressions from anyone running a 'Glide behind a sb Ford. Looking to make the switch from a Dynamic "Mighty Mite M C4" Trans is great but we will be in the high 8's next year and want something that is a bit stronger (read not having to tear it down every 20 passes). Anyone had Joel's build them a 'Glide for a 8 sec car??

Dart block 306",YSi trim (24 lb), Fox Mustang (3050 race weight). Makes 680 to the tires now but will be intercooled next year--probably put 750+ then. We run the car in True Street classes. From what I'm hearing, we will be on the edge of the C4's reliability once we hit 8.90's.

I put a 'glide in there now, the TH400 worked great, but I got a good deal on the powerglide, and since I run a turbo and stock suspension/small tires I thought it might work better. I got mine slightly used, but it's by Joel's on Joy, and I think it was $1800 new, with bellhousing (JW). It's supposedly good for 1200hp, so it's overkill for my car.

i hear nothing but good things about joels on joy, except that he is a dick and is kinda errogant but his shit works.. alot of people use his shit and it holds up well...

I agree, the only C4 that I ever had good luck with was from him, I got it for $580 brand new with bellhousing (back in 1999) and put a shitload of 10.0 passes on it with no problems at all.

He's also saved me money a couple times since then, I've called with problems to get him to fix it, he basically calls me a dumb ass, but tells me the problem so I can fix it myself. He knows his shit, he's just not much of a salesmen :)

Interesting. I need to talk to him then. I wonder what something that would stand up to 1500hp would be worth....I'd like to have a big safety margin if possible.

Glides work extremely well behind sbf, take a gander on the nmra forums and theturboforums. Do a search for people switching from c4's to glides 95% of them saw gains with no engine changes, especially the small tire guys.
My car has a glide but its not done so I can't say how good it works, nor can I compare it to a c4\c6 on a personaly level since this is a new package.

The most important part with the glide is having the correct convertor, theres lil room for forgivness in that arena un-like with a 3 speed.
