ok so basily im alil curious..i changed my setup in my 69 camaro and wondering how its going to work i was runnin a th350 and ofcourse it wouldnt hold together so i bought a glide of a buddy with a much faster car then me. anyways i know im on the heavy side being alil over 3000lbs and the glide is a 1.82 and im wondering how much of a differance it would make changing it to a 1.76 and how much of a pain in the ass is it to do? its a t brake and im going to be givin it a heathy shot of spray.. so i know its going to move out alot better then it used to but still i dont want it to come out of the hole like a dog either... anyways just curious whatca guys think

Look out

If that is the stock 1.82 ratio it will crumble like a house of cards in a wind storm at the 500hp or so range. Did you get the converter too? What is the stall spped of the converter you plan on using. How much Hp is your engine combo making? To get the 1.76 ratio you need the 1.76 planet carrier, ring gear, sun gear plate, and the input shaft depends on who's it is ( the length is different for the different ratios). The trans has to come down all the way to install the new ratio gear set.

well im not sure whats totaly done to it . it came out of a buddies 8sec car so from what you said i would have to imagine its been gone threw. i was told it was built.. but we all know that can mean alot of things . and with its record and scat sheild i would think it would be ok.. yes ive got the conveter with it.. and i sent it out to get match up with my motor combo..i know a converter can make or break a car. the motor is just a lil 383 ..9.5:1 pump gas motor with some pro top line 235 cc that i had ported and polish and flowed at TICO's they flowed 324 ... anyways the 552hp on pump gas and il be sprayin a 250 or 300 shot at it.. so im alil curious to see what kinda power it makes on the bottle

sounds like its going to be a big deal to change it out..will it hurt me that much to leave it alone???

If it went 8's consistantly in a heavy car then I'd consider it tested and ready for your car. :) 800+hp is a lot of cheese to be throwing at any stock gearset, IF that's what it has.

I don't think a change in ratio will be needed for a first attempt, no matter what you start with. 1.76, 1.80, 1.82...

Hopefully the converter is close to what you need. Dog on motor, Nice on the hose.

Well at that power range it should be built well with a decent gear set and output shaft. I'd leave the 1.82 ratio in it and spray the snot out of it. It should come out decent, because you'll minimize the HIT to the tires, but it won't feel like the TH350 ( just different) .

opps i think i mixed this up in my first post with out even seeing it..i belive its a 1.76 and i was wanting to change it to a 1.82 to help it get out of the hole better
good point on the tires i handnt though of that.. its a small tire car 28 11.5 15 so maybe its a good thing i was planing on trying to spray it right out of the hole so maybe that will help keep it planted
u think it will come out harder on a glide using the t brake n/a then it would with the th 350 w/o the t brake and n/a also

It depends really!!

I'd go with the 1.80 straight cuts. My supplier is giving me a hell of a deal on them till the end of december. They make a 1.82 aftermarket planet set (helical cut), but the cost is going to be greater than going to the 1.80 straight cut gears. The 1.80 straight cut set is far superior in every way anyways.

It's going to come out different. It shouldn't hit the tires so hard, which means your going to need a converter that stalls enough to get the weight of the vehicle out of the hole. Watch the spray out of the hole, if the rpm's start coming down after the launch there is a big potential for a NOS back fire and that ain't cool.
