Just to clear up the "A" coat and "E" coat argument, E coat with the proper phosphate can withstand 1000hrs or more of continuous salt spray and also withstand 3-5000hrs of WOM testing even after a 10day 100% humidity chamber.

But no car supplier is gonna pay the price it costs to do so


And yes blackbolt9 you are completely wrong- 25.4 microns = 1 mil, mils = millimeters x 39.37 just FYI

Most coatings are measured in mils or microns

:blush: for you. I've been a machinist and shop owner for over 27 years and on this you are flat out wrong. You are understanding the term mil as the slang term for millimeter in your shop environment when the discussion is about the proper full usage in a totally different arena.
In this case, you fail.
 
i had a frame dipped almost 10 years ago at a place in the romulus area, i think it was called carponents. I wonder what the prices are these days.

as far as dipping bodies, I have heard bad thigns about it. First they dip the shells in acid to clean it all and remove the rust, but when they wash the acid off before they do the ecoat process they dont get it all out of the seams and the hard to reach places. So after a year of beign painted or so you start to see cracking in certain areas like the bottoms of the doors at that seam/lip area, trunk area, etc.

how much was it to do a bare shell?

edit: i went to the website and I think thats the same company I did my frame at.

There is a place on 18 and Mound that does E-coat. I am not sure their process and how big, or if they even service the public. But I was dropping off interior parts for e-coat. If anyone is interested I ll try and find their info.

These parts werent for me, they were for a small out of business company I worked for. So I have no back ground with them or prices.

And yes 1 mil = .001 lol

the place in romulus doesnt do the e coat there they ship it out if you have time ill post the pictures of the "quality" work they did

agreed. i worked in a shop as a machinist. we made molds for pace maker leads and other medical equipment. if a print ever said mil (think i only saw it a handful of times) it did NOT mean mm. if it did then i would have slapped the shit out of the designer who made the print. :spank:
 
I've dropped stuff for people at that place in Romulus (It's 5 mins from my house). They do the cleaning there but I don't think they do the E-coating there.
