The Story:

Unseasonably warm weather (70F) convinced my local track to open an unscheduled test and tune Wednesday. We got four passes in, the first was just a tuning pass 1st/2nd gear pull.

Three full passes:

Pass two:
1.3648 60'
3.7466 330'
5.6587 at 128.96mph 1/8
8.7277 at 160.79mph 1/4

Pass three was a soft launch and really rich:
1.4050 60'
3.7862 330'
5.6701 at 131.11mph 1/8
8.6960 at 161.80mph 1/4

Pass four:
1.3420 60'
3.6688 330'
5.5440 at 129.27mph 1/8
8.5581 at 162.93mph 1/4

If there is another chance this season, we'll take it out again and lean on it some more. I think it has a little more in it, but the rest isn't going to come out easily. This is still on Q16, a change over to VP Import might let me squeak a little more power out with a little more aggressive tune. That change will not happen until next season. I do have some other things to mess with to find more power though.

This is also, as far as I've been able to find, the quickest a FWD car has gone on gasoline. The previous record was 8.57 (Kenny Tran in his old Honda). Beating this record was one of my major goals for this year.

I honestly didn't realize that would be the "gas" record for an FWD car....
I'm sure it will only get faster!!


fwiw Stattama/zzp has ran their TTGT Grand Prix 8.65@159 and still haven't turned the boost up to where it's planned
It's also running c-16 and a stock rotating assembly

Wow, nice work for Stattama/ZZP! Last I heard about that car it just clicked off an 8.99. Is that actually on stock rods/pistons even? That added 65% displacement compared to my 2.3l means a lot less cylinder pressure for the same power.

I'm also running nowhere near the boost levels my setup is capable of yet. I've been chasing flow to find power rather than doing too much tuning at high boost. It runs over 160mph at only 38psi. I expect it has at least another 100hp left at higher boost levels with a more aggressive tune and no parts changes. Nobody is scared of 50+psi anymore.

I see the "gas" record making a big change next year. All the 7-sec cars are on methanol or ethanol. Most are methanol. There are probably less than 10 FWD cars that aren't GM-sponsored that have gone better than 8.50's.

If you find ANY track time avaliable could you give me a shout? I'm keeping my eyes open also!
 
that zzp car is bad ass, i seen it at their shop last year at an open house they had, but i heard they planned on swithing the car over to RWD. all those guys have so many transmission issues its not even funny.

there are a lot of guys that have fast L67 powered cars but give up because they keep breaking trannies.
