Fuel economy test Ford vs. Chevy vs. Dodge

I'm very impressed with the new Super Duties. The have some serious balls right from the factory.. they run smooth and they;re very efficient.

The 6.7 is waaaay better on fuel economy than the 6.4. I towed to Utah and back using the 6.7 and it was much better on fuel. If I'm not wrong, the fuel tank is smaller though so we stopped just as often, which to me, seemed stupid.

UUUMMMM lets make this more fair

http://blogs.dieselpowermag.com/6697930/whats-new/high-elevation-face-off/index.html

Fuel Economy:
Chevy: 16.18 mpg
Ford: 15.51 mpg

Heres some good reading on the heavy duties also

What it said BEFORE the MPG claims said:
Here are our rough results, which were spread out over 1,250 highway miles (empty).

I would say "rough" might not be as technical as the results I posted.

If you want even better results, post the average speed of all three trucks and it's EMPG at the time of the first trucks alarm going off.
the average speed if slower on those engines will have a large affect on fuel consumption as well as increased speed having much better fuel usage results.

you should to..instead of a FORD biased commercial =)

The Ford F-350's best time up the grade was 10 minutes, 46.8 seconds at an average speed of 42.41 mph. The top speed was 58.5 mph, and it happened just before the point where the grade increased from 5 percent to 7 percent.

The Chevy Silverado was significantly faster. It finished more than two minutes ahead of the F-350, in 8 minutes, 38.2 seconds. Average speed cruising up to 11,000 feet was 53.63 mph, 11.22 mph faster on average than the Ford. The Chevy’s top speed was 67.38 mph for a few seconds before the grade changed from 5 percent to 7 percent.

there is plenty more in that story that says the Chebby is superior...i just didnt feel like copying anymore...

you posted a video from FORD..this was independent

keep in mind there driving 1,300 miles....if you can come up with EXACT numbers for a cross country trip with NUMEROUS fill ups then your the man...id say that there Rough estimate still leave the chevy ahead =)

That article is a little misleading. Both trucks are extremely impressive. Eisenhower Pass is a pretty ridiculous drive that barely anybody really does on a daily basis. The duramax has a larger turbo that is superior in a pull like this while the scorpion has a lot better launch performance. The duramax's exhaust brake was more impressive to me, although the trans has a different shift schedule that also helped it out. Fuel economy is a tricky one but I think the Superduty is a little better. I'd like to know what calibrator said they've got 30mpg on the road with the Superduty because I highly doubt that. I've seen 17-20mpg in a F350 4x2 SRW and 14-18 mpg in a F450 4x4 DRW doing city/freeway driving (more city driving though), without a trailer.

if GM runs the test Chevy would win.. If Ford runs it Ford wins.. If dodge runs it Dodge wins..

PERSONALLY im on board with FORD this yr..

On 1 ton trucks I've personally seen a few 6speed manual Cummins trucks unloaded getting up near 26-27mpg at i believe 65mph. My personal trucks were Duramax powered and the best Ive ever got was 22-23mpg unloaded at 65mph. MY truck had an edge w/attitude, 4inch down pipe back no muffler exhaust, an AFE intake, and a PPE boost valve. Stock trans, converter, ect. Towing about 13,000lbs back from silver lake I got roughly 17mpg doing 70-75mph.

Well that's the difference, I'm talking about a factory stock truck that meets 2011 emissions. If you put aftermarket parts/tune on either truck they'd get awesome fuel economy and still make big power. The emissions standards for 2011 and beyond are much more strict than previous years. Both trucks are very impressive, i mean they're making ~400hp/800ftlbs, get pretty good fuel economy, and meet emissions. I could barely tell I was pulling a 10k trailer with a F350 4x4 SRW, hell I think I was getting about the same FE as unloaded.

Oh, ok. I know the 6 speed cummins trucks we had only had an exhaust and a cheap programmer...... probably $600-$700 in aftermarket stuff at most. I am impressed though with a lot of the new trucks like you said that make big power and maintain decent mpg.
