looking to do up the fuel system on my car.. Im undecided if i should go with a cell or sump the stock tank.. Whats reg as far as IHRA\NHRA to be legal to 9.0's do you have to use a cell?

Forget the sump and the cell. Just weld a bung in the bottom right hand corner of your existing gas tank. $.10 and you're done :-)

I would say go with the cell, Iam doing my first fuel cell/system over the winter/spring so im gunna take as many people into this headache with me as possible

I can get more if needed, but yea, it can be done. I've done it more than once now. I believe the bung costs around $.10, and you can cut it in half and use it one 2 different tanks. I put them in the far most right rear corner area possible. The only benefit to a sump is having a slightly lower outlet. The only time I can benefit from that, is if I'm running probably 1 gallon of fuel or less, which I would never even think of.
That setup above is a 1/2 to -10AN fitting, -10AN from tank to filter, -10AN from filter to pump, about 2ft. of -10AN reduced to -8AN up to the carb, and an -8AN return line.
I've also ran a full -10AN up and -8AN back system on a tank like this, and I've never had a problem whatsoever.

Good point, hey Derrick, I have a couple extra tanks lying around.:icon_mrgr

I have a fuel cell and I like it. makes for swaping gears alot easier, more room under the car. I would go bigger then 10 though if you are going to street drive it. I have 10 and it goes fast.

FWIW, the other option is to put a pick-up in your stock tank. I know a lot of guys say not to do this, but I haven't understood why.

A few years ago I watched a guy named Lee Howie go deep into the 8's with a turbo and 306ci while using a fuel pickup tube in the tank. He said he liked it better than a sumped tank.

How often do you swap gears?

I have a stock tank. I wouldn't go to a fuel cell unless my car became a strip only car. It would drive me crazy having to open the trunk to fill the car everytime.

The only plus would be that I would have to use my little flathead screwdriver to hold the flap on my filler neck open. I always have to when I run 100+ octane. Stupid big neck nozzles.

I just pulled my tank to do that. I am going to put my new fuel system on and i wanted to sump my tank....or let someone else do it.
