Yes the fans are somewhat loud ( not much more than a normal PC fan though), I think an IDE HD would work. There is one more spot on the motherboard for an IDE cable OR you might have to get a PCI card controller.
These are USED for 4 years.

These are considered "workstation" PC's which is getting close to a server type PC. These aren't like your typical home PC's. They were ment to run programs day in and day out. Usually just one or two specific tasks. Although they will work as a normal PC
