i have a stock shortblock with heavily ported e7 heads. currently i have a b303 cam in it and im considering going to an x303. the motor is carbd with an air gap rpm intake that is ported to a fel pro 1250 gasket and a holley 650 carb. it is a stick car with 4.10 gears in the rear. my question is what pushrod length will i need to go with?? if anybody has replicated this combo let me know what you used and how it performed. i do know that ill have to get a length checker to be sure but im just curious if anybody else has done this combo

i think that is too much cam for your set up. unless your gunna go with a different set of heads an x cam is alot of cam for e7's even if they are ported all the way out. I would go with something like trickflow stage 1 cam or something else. goodluck.

I let him out yesterday he looked bored ive seen E7TE's with 1.90 intake valves hogged out flowing 218cfm at 28 inches of water... that being said an X cam is still a little on the large side but with an air gap an 1.6 rockers i dont see that being a terrible setup ? an F303 an 1.7's wouldnt be terrible either

www.diyporting.com is a great source for all this porting jazz, you can bring out alot more flow on top of what he did by getting a little more aggressive and using the chevy 1.90 intake valves like we did

ive also heard of a very similar setup going 12.20's in 3140# 89 coupe

yes i do agree that the cam is a little on the big side..but i have a chance to get one for next to nothing so im thinking about further down the road. i do plan on upgrading the heads to a set of aluminum ones in the spring. i currently have a "B" cam in it now

if i remember correctly when we did talk you had said that it dont even matter because the damage was already done. i still claim my innocence on knowing the motor was junk. if theres a way that we can at least put this to bed im all for it. i try to not have any problems with anybody on here and id like to keep it that way. sooo....give me a call and we can talk about getting it cleared up for good...586-943-7281. if i dont answer right away i will call back

I thought we agreed on you finding me a set of rods and pistons but maybe my memory serves me incorrectly.

Either way it don't matter anymore I'm just sour about it still.

how are you guys thinkin' the X is too big if the .050 duration is the same between the two? Lift is typically a tad big for an E7 but as long as the heads don't DROP flow over the .500 mark you just get into the meat of the curve quicker w/ the xtra lift.

Tim Johnston ran an X cam w/ ported e7s in a fuelie combo for awhile that did well. So long as you've got piston to valve clearance you should be ok. Pushrod length shouldn't necessarily change vs. the Bcam. Good to check if you haven't already but you'd be better off moving to an adjustable rocker first if budget is tight.
