2005 F350 6.0 Powerstroke Diesel Quad cab Harley Davidson Edition 4x4.

Took the truck to the dealer (Krug Ford Howell Michigan) 4 months ago for the oil leak pass. side and poor fuel economy. They kept it 7 days, killed both my batteries (2 years old sears gold batteries) they said it didnt have a leak they could find and that i needed 2 new batteries. They jump started my truck and gave it back to me with a rip in my drivers leather seat as well. I drove to Advance Auto Parts and bought (2) new batteries. (I'll never give Krug Ford my biz again....maybe not even FORD again because of my experience)

4 months later ...... it dies on my wife with her mom (who is in a wheelchear) on a 95+ day this summer. I drive there and check the oil....its low....i go buy 4 quarts of oil...its takes all of it. (got 5,000 on the oil) Try to start it....just cranks and cranks.....left the truck for a couple hours.....came back wouldnt start after the first few attempts....one last try....bam! she fires up like nothing was wrong. Drove it home with no issues at all. ran like new. Turned it off...restarted no problem. Let it sit for the night, went to start it....crank and crank but no start.
SO.....i call Ford Motor Company and they tell me i'm outta warranty and that my 200,000 mile extended warranty isnt good anymore cuz it expired (even though i only have 189,000 on my truck due to the date. SO i've got a $50,000+ truck sitting in the driveway that i just got for my wife that i have a note on and Ford basicly tells to to "PISS OFF"

Truck sits for 4 months....i keep reading threads on Powerstroke.org forum and all of the knowledge...i figure screw it! so i deceide to tackle the job myself!!

While it was apart i found a torn/falling apart oil cooler screen and IPR screen broken/missing pieces.

I've stripped the engine down to the long block and am replacing all the seals, EGR delete, Upgraded oil cooler, upgraded turbo drain back tube,STC fitting, stand pipes, dummy plugs, IPR, ICP/ pigtail and Doing ARP head studs (one at a time since it has only 20-30k since FORD replaced the heads) oh...and its getting a K&N cold air intake and SCT tuner.

This is my problem.....pulled the Oil filter housing off and found these plastic pieces sitting in the bottom :

(diffent angle same pieces)

(different angle...same pieces:

I have no idea what they are...where they came from??
I'm getting close to putting the truck back together but need to know if anyone has seen something like this. If not...how did it get there? Dip**** Ford Mechanic drop something in there? ( You wouldnt believe it...FORD ASE mechanic left a intake bolt loose...had RTV on the rubber seal to the oil pump cover too, left the valley a total mess...you name it!)

To my Belief I think the no start condition was caused by the Ford tech. not cleaning the valley and debris getting into the Oil cooler and IPR, also the STC fitting was the upgraded one with the bracket but seemed like the bracket did more harm than good IMO.

I also want to add that my Antifreeze looked like brand new and oil was black like diesel oil should be. Degris bottle was a little low but clean as a whistle.

Anyways.....Help is greatly appreciated!!

My advice, take that 6.0 and run it into a tree. Then take the insurance money and buy a clean southern 7.3 for a 1/4 the price and make it look like a Harley edition. I wouldnt drive a 6.0 if someone gave it to me.

It's such a damn shame that Ford fucked everybody with a 50k truck when they sold them with their 6.0 diesel. Those trucks are worthless and owners are stuck with basically an upside down loan (like many peoples homes) now. Best of luck fixing your truck. When you get it running I'd trade it in on anything else.

Narrowed it down to the Oil stalk tube button and spring falling apart for NOT using a Motorcraft oil filter! Wix makes great filters but not for the 6.0 powerstroke. After i'm done putting the truck back together....me and the wifey need to chain em together and see who's got the badder truck ....my 7.3L or her 6.0?

Gonna start a build thread on the Harley truck soon. Gotz lots of "Bullet proofing" parts for her. + upgrades.

Sweet. Whats done to the 7.3?

Banks Intercooler piping,
MBRP 4" stainless exhaust from the turbo back into 6" stacks,
TS performance 6 pos. chip.
Eaton Truetrak limited slip rear diff (being installed this week)
Detroit Gearbox Heavy Duty Transmission with Precision triple disc converter + billet flywheel. <<<<<Big Dollars but totally worth it. (Goes to Detroit Gearbox on Monday)
Bilstein shocks with Rough country dual shock stabilizer
2 extra leafs in rear with firestone air bags.
full leaf leveling kit for front.
aluminum diff covers with drain plugs!!
S&B cold air intake
This truck is my new "Baby" so....lots more mods to come. Exhaust brake, full guages, bigger injectors, CFM+ intake. etc. etc. Love my 7.3L!!!

I find it funny people hating on the 6.0 and id bet u dont own one. They are very good engines if you correct the packaging concerns ford made. Egr cooler has to go, updated stand offs, orings in the oil manifolds, update turbo oil lines and the fuel pressure fixes. Change it over to a quality fleet coolant and youll never have a issue with that engine. 90% of break downs on diesels come from lack of or improper maitnance.

Shouldnt have to fix a 50K$ truck, i think was his point. THe cost of all the things listed are 5K or more to PAY to have someone do it, thats unacceptable. You already paid 50K for a NEW truck, why should it need updates to be reliable???

My parents have one, and it runs great, all they use it for is towing a 12K pound trailer cross country once a year, and locally every other weekend. So far so good, but i knock on wood alot!

$50k brand new or not, it still is a 6 year old truck with 189,000 miles on it. Shit is occasionally and eventually going to happen. Sometimes something simple can cause a big headache in cost and effort to fix.

My brother got 570,000 miles on his Sprinter 5cyl turbo diesel before the headgaskets went. Original trans till 510,000 miles. Other people have issues at 200,000. It happens to every make and every model.

I beg to differ, but your statement doesnt necessarily run true. I have a buddy that had a mint 03, granted 150k miles but it was a POS. He fixed everything that you stated, including the egr, stand pipes, ect and it still ran like shit. New FICM, new IPR and it would never run right. everytime he'd fix it it would run ok for a bit but then end up doing the same thing but worse everytime. IMO its an engine that is not worth the headache. Shit you cant even safely put a tuner on it without having to do headstuds and gaskets. Save yourself the grief and stick with a 7.3

Me neighbor just dropped 10k (yes, 10k) on fixing his 2003 6.0L SD. It has 230k on it. I would have lit it on fire.

Just a heads up the diesel guys arnt having very good luck with the k&n filters at least on cummins, they are dusting the turbos and valve seats.

I've got customers with 200k+ on 6.0's with no problems and I've got customers with less than 100K with problems. Maintenance is 99% of the problem with diesel customers. Diesels are expensive to own AND maintain. That's the problem, people don't want to spend big money on maintaining them. It's like ANY vehicle, if you don't maintain it, it's not going to last.

Yep, I didn't see EGR delete in your list of things to do...But I would certainly do this before putting it back in the truck.

I know a guy who has a 6.0L truck, did EGR delete on it last year because its had a few under warranty. Once warranty was out and it needed it again, it was deleted. He drives it a lot, cross country, trailers, all sorts of stuff, works good for him, but I think he is always worrying when something is going to crap out.

I try and stay up on my dads 6.0.. We have been pretty lucky, Twyman has fixed it a few times but nothing horrible. I wouldnt say it has had more problems then other trucks. Andys 6.0 chevy has had the same amount of issues in my oppionion. Its not perfect, but it gets the job done.
