Foreign Car Owners

Why is it when you talk to a foreign car owners they say things like "My Toyotas got 150,000 miles and all it has needed is an alternator and a water pump."?

Then they will tell about their last American car and say "when I hit a 120,000 miles it needed an alternator, then the water pump went, I had to get rid of it, it was falling apart."?

cause they are sheep My suburban has 170k and has needed brakes tires and a battery plugs were changed at 100k still on the original wires

because foreign car owners buy the car and are brainwashed.

they perform basic maintenance (talking asian cars here, not European) and drive it until it dies.

Personally, I'd rather be in an auto accident in an american car than a asian.
my g'f's old Mazda 3 was made of tin.

A guy I worked with had the transmission on his Honda Civic go out within 10,000 miles of ownership. :(

He was STILL brainwashed even after that.

Cause they are idiots...

The difference in comfort and safety of an American car compared to a European/Asian car is enough to make up my mind. The Accords, Civics, Jettas, Camerys, and Corollas I've ridden in are horrible. After 30 minutes my back is sore and arm is cramping. Its like a cloth covered cinder block with a shifter right at your hip! I'll continue to buy American, I don't care if I have to put brakes on the thing every 25k!

my jeep cj7 had 210k on it when I bought it, i drove it for 3 years and then did an engine swap to a v8, but the engine ran fine and only leaked from the rear main seal...they did that from the factory though.

my cherokee had 265k on it when i sold it, drove it for over a year. it had a broken flexplate the whole time and ran fine

my caddy sts i sold with 275k on it. smoked alot, but ran 13.9s all day long in the quarter

my grand prix gt currently has about 130k on it and runs like a top also. Ive only had to replace the water pump and alternator hahahaha

I drive all foreign cars now, and my family has forever.
For the record we have NO Auto affiliation which I know is rare.

We are not the stereo typical family but you are correct.
Most people who own them do like to talk about that kind of stuff, I have no clue why.

I have many friends and myself who have had high mileage american cars that run just as good.
The people are like you said-brainwashed by the salesman.

I have owned more imports than domestics, and I can say that I have personally never adopted the attitude discussed in the original post.

Aj It's ok you have a badass bowtie in the garage :thumbsups

The few I have owned never lived up to the import owners claims of being better. The Honda I had last winter/summer was horrid compared to the "worst car ever made" PGT. The were the same age, just different model years. The PGT had a nicer, more comfortable interior that didn't feel like it was going to crumble. Minus the stupid two piece door panels. Sport compact to sport compact the Prelude had nothing on the PGT. It was smaller, cramped, slower, lacked all feel, and handled like poo. Hell, my 87 econobox of a Mustang feels nicer!

never owned an asian car, but i do however have faith in a lot of german autos compared to some of the domestics ive owned. i do agree though, you hear people saying that all the time. i want to ask them if they've owned anything else?

I own a 2001 Ford Ranger XLT. I have 212K on it and I've only had to replace the oil, other fluids and maintenance items :).

i have almost 400k on my 89 grandprix... i did replace the alternator(because of the 12s in the truck) and water pump... and there was NO RUST... my neighbors honda had rust on the wheel wells after 7 months
