Ford trans slipping????????????????????????????????

I was driving the wifes2000 lincoln cont. With about 110k trans worked fine for about 20 mins. Then it started going in and out of gears. For about a mile then no gears would work. Towed it home and not it works fin after only about a halk an hour. Is this trans bad or it the filter plugged or what else?
 
Sounds like after it cools down it works ok, but when it warms up its slipping. typical symptoms of a bad trans. Hows the fluid look/smell?

sounds like a plugged up cooler cuasing a overheat. check the pan for converter debris.
 
Thanks I just picked upa filter and am going to try that. It never slipped it just lost everthing till it was shut off and restarted. I am sure it will not be pretty at the bottom of the pan but if it runs alittle longer. then that much longer with no car payments.
 
I say slipping but it was more like popping out of gear and then going right back it. till it had nothing then after shotting it off and restarting 20 mins later it works fine. busy day today I will change filter in the morning.
 
disconnect the cooler lines and see if they are plugged. If the cooler plugs up it can cuase the pressure regulator to bind up when it gets hot resulting in no movement. typically the pump fials right around the same time.
