ford to offer buyouts to 75k workers

my roomate has worked at ford for 5 years or so and the last 2 years he's been skilled trades hasn't worked let alone pick up a tool in a year and a half and also for the past year and a half he has friends sign him into work sometimes he goes in to sign in and leave come up and sleep and make $32/hour so yeah the uaw needs to do this even though i'm sure he won't be affected cuz he's only 26 but over the past month at least hes been going to work and staying there and i think its cuz shit is changing there...not to bad for 80k a year

So when these good paying jobs are gone and replaced with slave labor wages, I'm sure the price of cars will drop...

Oh wait... CEO'S and "upper management" will just pocket the profits...:pow: :pow: :pow: :pow: :pow: :pow: :pow:

Do you think $15 - $18 per hour for unskilled labor is slave wages? That is what the transplant assembly plants are paying and nobody who works there seems to be complaining. It is the best most people will do without education.

The job market isn't what it was 20 years ago. No degree, no skills, means you have to get used to saying "paper or plastic".

And shareholders pocket the profit in corporations, that is how it works.

Just about everything you guys have said is very true. I see it all first hand, from a Union rep, line worker, supervisor, to the plant manager. Ford definately needs to trim the fat and i would start with some of my lazy ass coworkers and cry babies. Dont get me wrong, i have a very easy job but it could be a lot easier for everyone if we worked as a team. I have people on my team snitching on each other about the tiniest bs. All they care about is money. Half of these guys dont give a fuck about the company.

Best of luck to all the Ford guys tomorrow and in the weeks to come. I know I worked with a lot of salary guys that were in there late 40's-mid 50's that are not ready to retire yet. They have there years in but still have teenage kids and some younger.

Is it the UAW'S fault Ford designs crappy vehicles that no one wants to buy?:dontknow:

This is by far, and I mean by far, the biggest/dumbest copout uneducated Union boneheads/sympathizers rely on in their arguments on how "oh no, it's not me who is cutting off my nose to spite my face" Auto Industry rationalizations.

Explain please: GM holds around 20% of domestic share, Ford 16-17%, DCX around 13%. You've got three domestic manufacturers with a ridiculously long-standing manufacturing base from which to work who DOMINATE the market. Domestic auto makers (add with me) contribute about 50% of all the light duty cars and trucks we buy. Ford wastes everyone with the F-150 and has an "off" year when they don't sell 900,000.

At the same time the Japanese, those scions of the gods of exciting design hold down about 35%. You can add the following cars that actually make me faint from excitement in their top sellers: Camry, Accord, Sentra, Civic, Corolla. Please, someone get me a paper bag, I'm hyperventilating.

The vehicles in this equation don't matter. The industry is the definition of an oligopoly, and there's one big ass difference between the players. The cars one set makes cost them a whole shitload less than the cars the other set make.

GM managed to lose $11 BILLION dollars this year and they have by far the highest share in the industry. So obviously they are selling cars to someone somewhere, rebates or not. Yes, if every car GM built was Corvette exciting, that would lower their $6 billion dollar a year health tab (might I point out, how many of the $17 mil in Viagra scrips are UAW workers reselling and pocketing those profits from? I mean, how's a $40 an hour bolt turner to live? :icon_roll ). Salaried GM workers foot 27% of their healthcare bill, hourly foots 7%. Sounds fair, because lord knows all those evil bastards sitting in cubicles in shitty offices are being paid 7 figures by "the man".

Everyone, and I mean everyone outside of the myopic little rust belt world we live in realizes this, and they're laughing while Detroit crumbles from inside. People want NOTHING to do with us because they are so disgusted with the UAW and the constant tales of Jobs Banks, absurd wages, and crippling legacy costs. Say the very word "Union" and that turns people off from the cars because of the "quality" it insinuates.

And therein lies the problem. The good guys at the Union get totally hosed by the ones who can sit around secure not giving a shit what happens to the guys who do...sad.

Its time to hire some new designers. They probably got guys working there that designed the Model T!

Zack,
I can attest to this being (almost) true. One of my cubemates has 38 years with the company in design and up until this week, he hadn't even considered leaving. He still has 2 kids in college.

As a union line worker at Ford, I have to say some of what you all say is true. There are a lot of asses, but a lot of good people in the union too. Don't lump us all in one basket.

Please read my post. It's the same everywhere there are always going to be the lazy bastards. It's too bad the Union protects them.

that attitude is bullshit too. a buddy told me a story about the union he works for. i guess some kid drove his honda crotch rocket to the union hall one night and he came out to see the tires slashed and the bike beat to fuck. just because it wasn't an america made bike.

What kind of low life loser shit is that? that story pisses me off to no end every time it comes up. :swear:

I need one that says Chevy and one that says Pontiac.

What I really want is one that says:

I work for MYSELF
I drive WHATEVER I WANT

Sounds to me like upper management failed to so simple math over the years, and everyone is supposed to be suprised that there are too many overpaid blue collars and too many retirees to continue to pay for. Yea ok.

now that the cat is out of the bag, i guess i can post this part of the deal:

Upper management/salary is getting hammered also, at least 4000 by the end of the year.

28 years or more will be offered a package. If you turn it down you will be walked out.

We(agency) have been told several times, you are agency you are safe. I don't believe it but we will see.
