Captain you know I'm not a Pro-union guy, but you guys along with the everyone else at Ford are doing a great job.
The study looked at 2008 model cars and trucks from all full-line manufacturers.

What about long term quality? I'm not so much concerned if there is a bad censor or something like that while the car is under warranty, I'm concerned about blowing head gaskets, the transmission dying, etc.
FWIW, Ford has the least generous warranty out of the Big Three. Chrysler is the best offering lifetime power train, GM with a 5yr/100,000 miles, and Ford with 5yr/60,000.
IMO this would be a good area for Ford to improve things. If they are so confident in their product they should be happy to stand behind it. Just my .02.

I look at a warranty as a "Well we know it's gonna break, so will cover it". Also the Chrysler warranty has TONS of loop holes for them.

It's not about whether the warranty has loopholes, it is the public perception that the company is at least willing to stand behind their product, sometimes costing up to $50k or more.
Isn't that what this thread is about, initial quality survey of new owners? The new owners perception of the vehicles and the repair/quality records.
The public perception is that Ford is as good as Toyota and Honda. What's your point? :dontknow:
What have the the extended warranties done for GM and Chrysler? Looks like Ford doesn't need to offer that.

1. Wrong, the public perception is that Japanese built vehicles are much more quality than domestic built vehicles. I understand, given your job you are a little bias, that you want to spread the word that Ford is catching up, but it will take years and an established track record to change that public perception. I'm not talking just the midwest, I'm talking across the USA.
If you go out west, there is no domestic loyalty. Import sales trump domestic sales. And those people having been buying imports for years and years. To get them to convert to domestic is going to take a LOT of work.
2. Yes, Ford offers extended warranties at a cost. Gm and Chrysler's warranty are included in the cost. Seems like a simple answer for Ford, raise the msrp to cover an extended warranty.
No you're wrong. We are talking about THIS survey and it ranks the FORD products as high as Honda and Toyota. This wasn't a "midwest" survey. It was taken across the U.S. The Detroit News was reporting on it.
We aren't talking about market share. We are talking about a RDA Group survey that proves Ford's quality is just as high as the almight Imports.
Why are you talking about warranties? What are the warranties on Honda and Toyota?
Every Toyota Car, Truck and SUV is built to exceptional standards. And that's not idle boasting. We back it up with these Limited Warranty Coverages:
Basic 36 months/36,000 miles (all components other than normal wear and maintenance items).
Powertrain 60 months/60,000 miles (engine, transmission/transaxle, front-wheel drive, rear-wheel drive, seatbelts and airbags).
Honda is offering a basic warranty of 3 yrs / 36,000 mi and drivetrain coverage of 5 yrs / 60,000 mi.
:mmm: that's the same as Ford. I guess they better step it up.
Stick to one subject if you want to debate this.
BTW yes I'm VERY basis when it comes to Domestic car companies. I support GM and Chrysler, but Ford is putting food on my table. That's why I posted this.
