Ford GT standing miles

Hennessey Car in Texas at Texas Mile went 263.3 mph this morning on their first pass. Got rained on and were done but will turn it up tomorrow.

Performance Power Car (goons) went 283.23 mph 10 days ago according to a Guinness Book of World records release ago.

Ford GT remains the ultimate high speed car. I remember thinking it was fucking crazy when people were hitting 240. Looks like 300 mph is not that far off. Crazy.

I wonder what its like to go that fast. Pure insanity. The world becomes a blur

That's fast. But IN A MILE?! That's stupid fast. The Ford GT is a modern day masterpiece and that fact that it is THE car for this speed race proves how over-engineered is was from the start. Very cool.

DBK,

What kind of tires are they using? Holy mother of God, that's flying...no really FLYING! Are they like 1500hp TT's?

Seems like with high speed road car type stuff that tires are always the challenge. With these it is over fast enough that while I'm sure they are exceeding speed ratings of tires and there is danger, the tire risk is not insanely high due to the short amount of time at speed. I know the guys that run unlimited class in the open road rallies and could average around 200 over the length of the course had issues because they had heavy cars that needed real brakes to fit in the wheels so there really was no tire designed to carry that kind of weight at the speeds they run.

Dave - What are the specs on the two cars? Turbos? What type of power is needed to get a GT to 260-280mph?

I believe that tire speed ratings are set with respect to resonant frequencies. Since the car in the "Mile" type events are either accelerating or decelerating and not staying at a constant speed for any period of time there isn't much time for a tire to resonate. Open road type events like the Silverstone Classic would be quite the opposite so I can see those cars having issues.

The Hennessey GT I think was probably making like 1700-1800 rwhp. Most people run on Hoosiers developed for the car during the program. Not sure what they have on this one but when you're only at the max speed for 5-10 seconds it's a lot different than any sustained type of run. My buddy with the fast yellow GT that went 260+ runs on Hoosiers but changes them every few runs just to be safe. The car that went 280+ is probably making around the same power, but it's got a different trans and gearset. The 263 mph GT uses factory transmission and gearing. I'm sure the gearset makes all the difference in the world.

I heard a Camaro that made 2030 rwhp just went 262.2 mph.

you get going pretty fast on an airplane ,its kinda like that :icon_wink

I remember they used to let kids in the cockpit to get the wings while in flight

Hennessey GT went 267.6 this morning.

Just got a text that the Camaro mentioned above crashed badly just now. Hoping for the best. Dangerous game.

that camaro is built by lmr in texas kelli black is the owner, twin turbo 450+ci ls motor they should be able to hit 280 heard it put down 2500!!!!!

Now they are saying his legs weren't broken. LS1tech said they were. Either way, nasty wreck with the car skidding on it's roof at an extremely high speed.
